Guglielmo Vicario takes cheeky jab at Arsenal after clinching Goalkeeper of the Year award

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham summer signing in goal, Guglielmo Vicario, has proven to be a revelation since joining the club.

Spurs secured the services of the Italian international in July on a five-year contract from Serie A club Empoli in a transfer deal worth €18.5 million.

The Lilywhites’ goalkeeper has been among the top performers in the division, arguably even the best.

Vicario has recently been honoured as the London Football Awards Goalkeeper of the Year for outstanding performances this season.

The 27-year-old, known for his witty humour, couldn’t resist taking a playful jab at their city rivals, Arsenal, following his award win.

Sharing the achievement in a post on his official Instagram handle, in a picture alongside his parents with a red light obscuring the place, Vicario commented:

“I should have asked to turn off that red light.”

Tottenham fans appear to relish the banter of the Italian, who consistently finds ways to express himself, whether on the field or off it.

Vicario undoubtedly backs up his words with remarkable displays on the pitch, as evidenced by his ranking first in a crucial goalkeeping metric from Opta, as cited by Sky Sports.

The goalkeeper leads in the Premier League in terms of xG conceded minus actual goals conceded per 90 minutes, boasting an impressive rating of +0.28. This indicates that he tends to prevent more goals than he lets in.
