Tottenham secured a massive 4-1 win over Aston Villa on the weekend reducing the gap to the top 4 to just two points, but the win came with an injury blow to their star defender Cristian Romero.
Spurs came into the game without one of their first-team centre-backs, with Micky van de Ven out for a month with a hamstring injury sustained during the win against Manchester City in the League Cup last week.
And early in the second half against Villa, they lost Cristian Romero as well, who was subbed off after picking up a bone injury on the right toe.
As recently reported, the 26-year-old has set off alarm bells in Argentina with his injury ahead of the upcoming international break.
Gaston Edul shares update on Cristian Romero
Argentinian journalist Gaston Edul has now shared an update on the injury to the World Cup winner, stating that the injury looks milder than initially feared. According to him, there is no bone injury which means he could be out for just a week or 10 days.
Sharing the update on X (formerly Twitter), he tweeted:
“Cuti Romero has an injury in the right big toe ligament. There is no bone injury (fracture or fissure). It’s milder than it could have been.”
“He’s going to be off for a week or 10 days. Argentina’s list comes out in the next few hours.”
Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin to step up in absence of Romero and Micky van de Ven
With both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero out, Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies are expected to become the centre-back partnership for the next few games at least.
Ben Davies is Spurs’ longest serving player and has proven himself to be a utility man for the club, stepping up to play wherever needed, whenever needed.
Dragusin, who joined from Genoa in January, has a chance to impress Ange and make a genuine claim for a starting position in the defence.
Spurs play Galatasaray in the Europa League next, followed by a home game against Ipswich Town in the Premier League before the last international break of the year.
