Former star reveals the two signings Tottenham need to compete for the title

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have started the Premier League season in fine form and they are currently on top of the league table.

They will be hoping to push the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal in the title race and return to the Champions League by the end of the season. The North London outfit have put together an exciting squad and new manager Ange Postecoglou has managed to get the best out of his players.

The Australian’s attacking approach has proven to be an instant hit at Tottenham and they will look to build on their impressive start to the season and compete for trophies this season.

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has now revealed that Tottenham are probably two signings away from truly competing for the league title.

The former goalkeeper has suggested that Tottenham should look to bring in a quality striker who can score goals consistently. Son Heung-min is the only reliable attacker at the club right now. Richarlison was expected to step up and fill the void left by Harry Kane, but the Brazilian has been largely underwhelming.

Another reliable goalscorer could make a big difference for Tottenham in the final third and he could share the goalscoring burden alongside the South Korean international.

Meanwhile, Friedel also claims that Tottenham need to sign a quality central defender who will add depth to the side. Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven have been excellent so far, but Tottenham will need an alternative in case of an injury. Another quality defender would allow Postecoglou to rotate his squad as well.

He said (h/t Football London): “When you look back at the great teams of the past, they all had a player like that to drag them through those tough matches. Son is scoring, which is great for them, but I think they need someone else up front.

“Then, if you’re thinking about squad depth and rotation, possibly another centre-back. Van de Ven and Romero are performing really well, but if an injury happens, you’re going to need someone who is almost as good.”
