Former Spurs scout Bryan King believes Rayan Cherki could come in as an ideal replacement for Bryan Gil.
The North London club are expected to look at every possible way to bolster their squad ahead of next season. Rayan Cherki is a player who has attracted a lot of attention on the back of his impressive rise.
According to Bryan King, Spurs could look to sign the French sensation to replace Bryan Gil.
The former Sevilla youth product joined Tottenham back in 2021. A lot was expected from the 23-year-old but unfortunately, he has failed to live up to the expectations. Gil has been linked with a move away from the club. If he does end up leaving in the summer, the Lyon forward could come in as an ideal replacement.
Cherki has gone from strength to strength at Lyon. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has been a part of their first team for a while now and Bryan King feels he could be a great addition to Ange Postecoglou’s team.
While speaking to Tottenham News, King said: “He sounds as though he would be an ideal replacement for Gil.
“More of a squad player than someone who is going to win you the Premier League.
“If Gil or Giovani Lo Celso are to leave, then Tottenham need to be looking at replacements of a similar or higher level.
“Cherki is playing for a decent club. Players are going to be leaving so replacements need to be lined up.”
Gil has had less than 300 minutes of first-team football in the 2023/24 season, he is way down the pecking order at the club. While his contract runs until the summer of 2026, a move away in the summer will be the most likely outcome.
Meanwhile, Giovani Lo Celso could leave the club ahead of next season as well. As a result, Spurs will be on the lookout for replacements and Cherki could be a great signing for them.
The 20-year-old French attacker is capable enough to play anywhere across the front three and he is expected to get better with time. As a result, he could be a great investment for Spurs as they seek more firepower in the attack ahead of the 2024/25 season.
