Former PL winner’s claim after Southampton victory will excite Spurs fans – opinion

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur picked up a 4-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Londoners did well to come back from 1-0 down to secure a comprehensive win in front of their own fans.

Former Manchester United star and renowned Premier League pundit Roy Keane has now heaped praise on Antonio Conte’s side for their performance and character.

Keane claims that Spurs could be in for a brilliant season and they have an outstanding squad and manager at their disposal.

Despite the fact that they were trailing early on in the game, Keane had no doubt that they would bounce back strongly and end up on the winning side.

He said to Sky Sports (h/t HITC): “You just knew yesterday they would come back, strength in depth, outstanding manager, there’s momentum at the club, obviously a lot of belief and confidence. I think Spurs are set up for a brilliant season.”

The former Manchester United captain’s opinion will certainly leave the Spurs fans excited for the remainder of the season.

With the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal going through a bit of a rebuild, this is a golden opportunity for Spurs to push for a finish in the top three.

Conte has strengthened his squad significantly and if his new signings manage to hit the ground running, even a Premier League title challenge might not be beyond them.

Liverpool have lost a key player in Sadio Mané and they are struggling with a few injury issues right now.

Moreover, Conte certainly has the tactical acumen to match up with the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

Although few would have tipped the London club to challenge for the title this season, their quality simply cannot be underestimated and anything is possible if they can put together a run of good results and attain some momentum.

Roy just wants to be able to say “Spurs, they always let you down” again at the end of the season… 😂

There is no insight at all really. Keane is good entertainment, but the whole cast offer nothing of any value, just cliches and bluster.

Even Neville and Carragher talk really basic stuff on their show. Viewers are so starved of good content they lap it up though

Lose two or three games and they will be only too happy to revert to type. “Spursy”, “no winning mentality”, “Kane and Conte should/will leave” and all that.

Just look how they’re bigging up Arsenal and sh-tting on ManU. After one game under a new manager.

You honestly have to take what these fellas say with a pinch of salt. Keane saying we have strength in depth now, but barely over a year ago saying everyone barring Son and Kane was average.

The average players included Lloris, Davies, Dier, Sanchez, Sessegnon, Doherty, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Moura. All in Conte’s ‘strong’ squad though now.

Talking to fans of other ‘top 6’ clubs in the PL is revealing – they’re seeing something different in Spurs already, something we didn’t have under Redknapp or Poch.

We have assembled a core of ‘tough tackling/no nonsense’ ‘leaders’/’men’ – no Fancy Dan’s, even the most creative players in the squad are tough competitors first and foremost.

Let’s see what they can do.

A good start but we have won nothing yet.
There are a few teams we owe a battering and the biggest of these comes up next.
If I know Conte he will be fuming at the space the golf git had on the edge of the box.Its not like we werent warned last time they came to NWHL.

As far as the result on Saturday , there is certainly a more calm , more thoughtful approach to going one down to Saints . This is a sea change , even the fans are less likely to boil over as quickly anymore . Whilst NOT saying we are defensively sound , the difference in Eric Dier alone is noticeable . I feel strongly that although Cuti is the younger , he has become the mentor for Eric , a greater sense of danger is now within and I for one see more authority in his demeanour . Maybe an England recall is now due , I definitely believe he has regained his inner self confidence and that if Maguire , Mings or White are ahead of him , I’ll eat my Spurs rosette .
Most of us feel that he is a DM , I certainly did , but he has ‘morphed’ of late and he has put in some commanding performances …………….and he’s a likeable lad !!!!
Well done Eric ………………………. C O Y S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
