Former PL ace feels UCL winner could replace Conte after international break

Tottenham were held to a 3-3 draw against Southampton in their last Premier League outing and manager Antonio Conte was left frustrated with the performance of the players.

Tottenham were 3-1 up at one stage but they conceded two avoidable goals and dropped crucial points in the top-four race.

After the game, Conte was involved in an explosive post-match presser where he questioned the ambition and the attitude of the players. He also highlighted the fact that a club like Tottenham is not used to winning trophies and the winning mentality is simply missing in the players.

The 53-year-old Italian will be out of contract in the summer and he has been linked with a move away from Tottenham in recent months.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has now reflected on Conte’s press conference and his long-term future at the club. Schwarzer feels that Conte might not be in charge of Tottenham after the international break and Spurs could look to bring in the former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel as his replacement.

“I don’t think Conte will be in charge,” he told Stadium Astro. “I think it’s almost at a point, I think personally it’s at a point of no return, I don’t think you can say that and get away with it.

“And I’ve actually got a sneaky feeling Thomas Tuchel could be the next manager and I think he’d be a good appointment as well.”

The 49-year-old Champions League winner is currently out of a job after being sacked by Chelsea and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Tottenham. The German has proven himself to be one of the best tacticians around Europe and he could be the man to get Tottenham firing once again.

The players are clearly struggling under Conte this season and the Italian’s explosive press conference could affect the morale of the squad negatively. Perhaps this would be the right time for a change and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham are prepared to bring in Tuchel in the coming weeks.

Tottenham has been linked with the move for their former manager Mauricio Pochettino as well.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few weeks and whether Conte can hold on to his job until the end of the season.
