Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the move for the Brazilian midfielder Ederson.
According to a report from Corriere Bergamo, Italian outfit Atalanta have now said no to the ‘requests’ of the Premier League club for the South American midfielder. Atalanta are not prepared to let the player leave midway through the season and Tottenham will have to wait until the summer transfer window to sign him.
Ederson has established himself as a key player for Atalanta and it is hardly a surprise that they do not want to weaken their squad midway through the season. They will struggle to find a quality replacement for the midfield enforcer.
The 24-year-old could prove to be a quality, long-term acquisition for the north London club. They need a quality central midfielder who can control the tempo of the game and recycle possession alongside Yves Bissouma. The Brazilian midfielder certainly fits the profile, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can secure his signature at the end of the season.
They have been linked with the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher as well, but a move for the England international seems highly unlikely in January and he is likely to be a more expensive option compared to Ederson.
The opportunity to move to the Premier League will be an attractive one for the Brazilian midfielder and he will be tempted to take the next step in his development. Regular football in England will only help him improve as a player and he will hope that the clubs can come to an agreement in the coming months.
