Real Madrid are keen on acquiring the services of Tottenham defender Cristian Romero.
After making a name for himself at Atalanta, Cristian Romero made the move to Tottenham in the summer of 2021. He has been a consistent performer for the North London club over the years and his work hasn’t gone unnoticed.
According to a report from ESPN journalist Esteban Edul (h/t TN Sports), Real Madrid are ready to prise him away from Spurs as they look to reinforce their backline ahead of next season. Los Blancos won La Liga as well as the Champions League last season but they struggled at the back because of injuries to key defenders.
“There is one player out of the 29 who is working with Scaloni today who is wanted by a top team. Many say he is the best in his position. The player that Leo Gabes says has a survey, an enquiry or an interest from Real Madrid is Cuti Romero,” Edul said.
Eder Militao and David Alaba were both out injured for the majority of the season and Real Madrid need more depth at the back.
Although they have a strong interest in the Argentine international, a move would be quite difficult. He is a key player for Tottenham and one of the leaders of the dressing room. Then North London club will want to hold onto him for the long term and they will not want to sell their best players. They need to keep players like Romero if they want to compete for major trophies in the coming seasons.
Furthermore, the defender still has three years left on his deal and Tottenham are under no pressure to sell him just yet. Real Madrid will find it very difficult to convince Daniel Levy to part with his best defender this summer.
