No two ways about it, Kieran Tripper was a busy boy against West Ham.
Sadly, our Busy Boys Hall Of Fame against the ‘Ammers also included Moussa Sissoko, Ben Davies and Eric Dier – who also achieved naff all.
Kieran made a lot of passes, but his accuracy was subpar 76.67%.
An unkind person might suggest that making most of those passes to Sissoko didn’t aid Tripp’s cause.
No shock to see who lost the ball most frequently for Tottenham.
Have a go Tripps and death-mask Davies working as wing backs isn’t just a ropey idea, it’s a fundamentally dangerous one.
Thank goodness we were only playing West Ham.

Rose wasn’t very good until Poch got stuck into him, apart from ‘that goal’ against Woolwich a few years back there wasn’t much to write home about.
I stil think he’s a bit overrated, in the same way Lalana and Lambert were under Poch. Defensively he’s always been a little suspect but going forward he generally makes up for it.
Once he loses a bit of pace I’m not so sure he’ll be as effective.
Lamela has to manage his fitness now which is why he can’t start every game, people need to stop asking why…
Actually until he regressed, when I first joined this blog ex posters were condemning Danny Rose ad nauseam until he proved his critics wrong. It’s hard to imagine Sissoko winning us round but regular game time has boosted his confidence producing some better performances of late notably a quality cross for Lamela’s goal!
“It’s a funny old game”. Considering what we paid for him patience is a very strong virtue with Lamela. Patience being the operative word!!! when having persevered with Lamela now showing genuine class we are finally reaping the rewards of a player who seemingly until now had little future at the club!
His goal against Liverpool was brilliantly arrogant and cool. Put Klopp back in his box a bit, Klopp reaction said it all.

Lamela seems to have let the whole ‘Ronaldo-light’ thing go and matured. If we cast our minds back, he was starting to look good before the injury.
He’s the only player in the team with that combination of arrogance and natural ability. The sort of thing you see with Hazard, Lamela just needs to put in a long period of consistent form and fitness.

He has had one goal for every 54 minutes played. The next highest is Eden Hazard on 95 mins per goal. This list includes 25 names and has everyone else you’d expect to be on there. Why is Poch not playing him more?? Remarkable!

I see aurier as a right sided midfielder/ winger. I’m not sure he’s precise enough in the tackle to be a right back. I would use him in the position sissoko tries to play.

Stats are sometimes misleading but you can’t really argue with those. Eriksen has been poor by his standards before he got injured. Lamela will be competing with any that play in the three behind Kane. So that’s Moura, Eriksen, Alli, and Son so two miss out if all are fit to play…
Dispite his lack of finishing think moura has been quite good at running at defenses & making space. With Eric coming back from injury & alli out. See no reason we cant play sonny, mo, lamela together. Hell play eric deep if need be. Any one but sissko (shitsko)

Funny, I think Match of the day have a lot to answer for – They made Sissoko looks like our star player, but when I saw other highlights he was his usual self (mildly better). I didt manage to watch the actual game.

I much prefer the Trippier tactic of crossing early rather than the 8 stepover and no cross technique of Walker
Powerful wingbacks were one of the team’s great strengths during those two title-chasing seasons. Looking back on it, Walker wasn’t accorded the respect he merited as best RB in tbe league and a player in the form of his life. Instead he was antagonized unnecessarily by being dropped for big games, then rather than healing the rift he was just shipped out to the title favourites. Wingbacks ceased being an exceptional strength and the team has rarely touched the same heights since. Unfortunate.
Still, the results keep coming no matter how unconvincingly. Long may it continue.

Spot on. He was disinterested and useless. You remember that season when Davies almost looked like a left back? Ages ago. We wont be able to hide against the top sides, like how far second best we were against L’pool.
Davies wasn’t good enough for the Europa league when we used to rotate him and Tripps. At least Tripps has proved he is a decent player in the world cup.
I find it laughable that a) we bought Davies or £10m, and b) we’ve retained his services for so long. It’s not about being a solid backup when you rotate the fullbacks as much as Poch does. You need 4 starters in full back positions. It’s a key area and a prime reason many of our attacks break down.

It would be interesting to know how poor defensive marking by either wing backs had directly cost us goals and in Davies how many times he receives the ball and stops to play it backwards or sideways or fails to put in a decent cross. He is simply not good enough for what we need to compete but then again that is of no interest to ENIC as he was cheap to buy and is cheap to pay. Trippier defensively is no better. Losing the combination of Walker and Rose as flying wingbacks has cost us so much forward momentum and the fact that Pooch and Levy were ok to let this happen and ok to sell to Man City says volumes about his management and ENIC’ s total lack of ambition.
