Tottenham today successfully secured the services of their long-pursued defender, Radu Dragusin.
After intense negotiations between Spurs and Genoa, a deal for the 21-year-old Romanian centre-back was finalised. The agreed-upon fee amounts to €30 million, inclusive of €5 million in bonuses.
In the final stages of the transfer process, Spurs faced substantial competition from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
However, Dragusin ultimately opted for the English club over the German champions, a decision that surprised many due to the allure of more significant potential silverware opportunities with Bayern.
Despite the tempting offer from Bayern, Dragusin remained committed to Spurs, having previously agreed to personal terms with the club.
Speaking to Romanian outlet GSP after the move was finalised, the player’s agent, Florin Manea, shared insights into the saga.
He revealed that Bayern’s offer was rejected in line with Dragusin’s wishes. Manea stated:
“We stopped dead. We were on our way to the airport. I said we have to think carefully and evaluate. Bayern are one of the biggest clubs. I can’t believe I turned Bayern down! But that’s the decision. I took it with Radu and his family. I informed Bayern that this was the decision, that they came in at the last minute and that it was difficult to change our decision.”
But interesting, Manea chose his words carefully and offered a diplomatic statement, leaving the possibility open for a future relationship with Bayern. He said:
“Maybe in the future we will get there. We are a little overwhelmed. To turn down Bayern… But it was ultimately what Radu and his family wanted. He is happy. We’re going to Tottenham!”
The agent also confirmed that the German club offered a higher salary, but the player opted to join the Lilywhites.

For some reason, his agent leaving the possibility of a future move away to Bayern open like that when the player has not even been officially announced by Spurs does not sit too well with us.
Often the agents have too much power and influence over players and he certainly seems to be one of those.
But let us forget about that for now and celebrate a player of his quality joining us over Bayern. He will be a great addition to the team.
