‘Don’t think there’s any way’: Former star claims 24-year-old target won’t join Tottenham

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has been heavily linked with the move away from the club at the end of the season.

Clubs like Tottenham Hotspur were keen on him during the January transfer window, but the move did not materialise in the end. The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to the North London club in the upcoming transfer window as well.

Former defender William Gallas believes that the midfielder is unlikely to end up at Spurs. Gallas, who has played for Tottenham as well as Chelsea in the past, believes that Gallagher wants to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea. The Blues Academy graduate is unlikely to join a bitter rival in the near future.

He said (h/t Football London):  “Gallagher is a Chelsea boy so I don’t think there’s any way he’ll go to Tottenham. If he’s from Chelsea’s academy, he’ll want to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea.”

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months.

Gallagher is undoubtedly a key player for Chelsea right now and he has captained them multiple times this season. However, the Blues need to raise funds for their own signings. They have spent freely since the takeover and they need to comply with the financial regulations now. Selling a key player for a substantial amount of money would help them strengthen the other areas of their squad in the summer. Gallagher could be sacrificed at the end of the season.

Tottenham could certainly use a hard-working midfielder like him, especially as a replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can convince the Chelsea midfielder to join them.
