Matt Law of The Telegraph has exclusively revealed that THFC’s one-time mogul, Joe Lewis, is to be favoured by the President of the United States of America. Law understands that Donald Trump will grant a full pardon to Joe Lewis, the British billionaire and former majority owner of Tottenham Hotspur football club.
The White House is expected to formally announce the pardon imminently. This comes amid Trump’s second term, where he has issued several high-profile pardons to political allies and others, including those involved in efforts to challenge the 2020 election results.
Insider Trading Charges:
In 2023, Lewis (aged 88) was charged by U.S. authorities with securities fraud for insider trading. He allegedly shared non-public information about two publicly traded companies with friends and employees while serving as a director.
Guilty Plea and Sentence:
Lewis pleaded guilty in New York federal court in 2024. He was sentenced to three years of probation (no prison time due to his age and health) and fined approximately £4 million ($5.3 million). He also agreed to forfeit additional assets.
Connection to Trump:
Lewis has been a longtime friend and donor to Trump, reportedly hosting him at his Florida estate and contributing to Republican causes. This personal tie is cited as a factor in the pardon decision.
For Lewis:
The pardon would clear his record, potentially lifting restrictions on his U.S. activities, though he resides primarily in the Bahamas.
For Tottenham: Despite the Lewis family’s ongoing minority stake in the club, sources confirm no involvement or return for Lewis in club operations.
