‘Do the right thing or sell up’: Pundit sends a message to Levy regarding Conte replacement

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is expected to leave the club at the end of the season and they have been linked with a number of replacements in recent weeks.

Former manager Mauricio Pochettino is one of the names linked with the return to the club at the end of the season.

Talksport pundit Darren Ambrose believes that Daniel Levy should look to bring the 51-year-old Argentine back to the club.

Ambrose slammed the Tottenham chairman’s decision to sack Pochettino in 2019. He also criticised the decision to get rid of Jose Mourinho on the eve of a cup final.

Furthermore, Ambrose believes that a lot of the blame has to go to Joe Lewis as well. He added that Lewis and Levy have made a number of wrong decisions when it comes to choosing and sacking managers. Ambrose claims that Conte was a top-class appointment but the Italian does not fit the system of players at the club.

“The buck stops with Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis,” he said. “You try and appease the fans by signing an elite manager that doesn’t fit the system of the Spurs players, so you’re hiding behind that.

“You sacked a serial cup winner [Jose Mourinho] on the eve of a cup final and replaced him with Ryan Mason, his first managerial role. That was a ridiculous decision.

“I think Joe Lewis, I’m going to call Joe Lewis out as well because he seems to get away with a lot of it, and Daniel Levy, you need to swallow your pride.

“Either get an up and coming manager and build the football club and take it year by year or like I said, swallow your pride. Admit you were wrong in 2019 getting Pochettino. Go back and resign him.

“You’re lucky to have the support you have. You’re lucky the Tottenham stadium gets packed out week in week out knowing you’re potentially going home and your weekend is ruined. I just think you need to give the supporters some hope, do the right thing or sell up.”

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham are prepared to bring the Argentine back to the club in the coming months. Pochettino is currently without a job and he will feel that he has unfinished business in the premier league.

He helped Tottenham challenge for the league title and the Champions League during his time at the club. He has a strong relationship with the Spurs fans and his exciting brand of football could be a welcome addition.
