“Disgrace” – Sky Sports man urges Tottenham to get rid of one man after 6-1 thrashing

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Liverpool defender and football pundit Jamie Carragher has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur should sack their interim manager Cristian Stellini following their humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday.

The game was a crucial one for Spurs as they were vying for a top-four finish, but the thrashing put a major dent in their hopes.

The match was all but over inside the first ten minutes as Newcastle netted three goals, two from Jacob Murphy and one from Joelinton. Isak added a brace to make it 5-0 in just 20 minutes.

Harry Kane managed to pull one back for Spurs early in the second half, but Callum Wilson’s strike made it 6-1, putting the game well and truly beyond reach.

Carragher was quick to criticise Stellini’s tactics, particularly the decision to use a back four with fullbacks Perisic and Porro.

He went on to say that Tottenham was a “disgrace” and that Newcastle had been brilliant all season.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote:

“Newcastle are brilliant, they have been all season.Tottenham are a disgrace!

How have they gone to a back four for the first time this season, with Porro a full back that can’t defend & Perisic who is a winger.

Get a proper manager in right now, not Conte’s mate.”

Stellini was appointed as interim manager following the departure of Antonio Conte earlier this season.

Although he has been Conte’s right-hand man, he lacks the experience to take on the role permanently.

Tottenham’s future manager will have to be able to attract top-tier players to the club, and failure to qualify for the Champions League could make that more challenging.

Tottenham are in talks with some top-tier managers for next season with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann one of the said favourites.
