Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has heaped praise on the defensive duo of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
The North London outfit picked up a 2-2 draw against Everton in the Premier League yesterday, but the central defenders certainly impressed with their performance.
Jenas wrote on BBC: “At the back, I thought Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero were a different class and the full-backs, Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro were again both very decent. I look at Tottenham’s back four now and they are all top level. As a unit, they have only been together since the start of the season, but they have turned things around very quickly. They are looking good defensively, and that is not the only area of the team where that is the case. Overall, I think the future does look really bright, and not just with what could happen this season.”
They were proactive in their defending and they cut out multiple threats throughout the game. In addition to that, Van de Ven impressed with his recovery pace and reading of the game.
Both players have been very impressive every time they have played together and Tottenham will be delighted to have found a quality partner for Romero. The Argentine international has been the best defender at the club since moving to Tottenham, but he lacked a reliable partner initially.
The arrival of Van de Ven this season has certainly solved that problem. The 22-year-old Dutchman has hit the ground running at his new club, and he has been outstanding so far. The former Wolfsburg defender will certainly be delighted with his start to life in English football, and he will look to build on his recent run of form.
Tottenham fans will be delighted with his performances so far and they will hope that he can continue to perform at a high level and help the team finish the season strongly. The North London outfit will be hoping to secure Champions League qualification for the next season and they need to stay well organised at the back in order to do well in the coming months.
