‘Deeply, I believe’: Arsene Wenger makes a bold claim regarding Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have started the Premier League season in fine form and they are currently on top of the league table.

Apart from their ability to grind out results, they have impressed with their style of football as well. The newly appointed manager Ange Postecoglou has introduced a free-flowing attacking brand of football at the North London club and their performances have left fans as well as neutrals impressed.

Former Premier League manager Arsene Wenger has now heaped praise on Tottenham for their performances this season. The Frenchman believes that Tottenham are genuine contenders for the Premier League title this season and it remains to be seen whether they can sustain their current run of form in the coming months.

Tottenham have an impressive squad at their disposal and the summer signings have all managed to hit the ground running. Wenger was full of praise for players like James Maddison and Micky van de Ven as well.

He said (h/t Daily Mail): “I like always to say what I feel, really. Deeply, I believe Tottenham will be one of the contenders for the league.

“They bought James Maddison, who is a great player. He is that link from low midfield to high midfield and added some technical creativity to the team.

“They bought Micky Van de Ven, who I find absolutely exceptional. They had weaknesses there and last season [Hugo] Lloris had not the best of seasons as well. And the movement from Son into the middle looks very good.”

Both players have been outstanding for Tottenham so far and they have already established themselves as indispensable assets for the club.

Tottenham must look to improve their squad when the transfer window reopens in January. Bringing in another quality defender and a reliable goalscorer could prove to be a wise decision for them.

They decided to sell Harry Kane during the summer transfer window, but they are yet to bring in a quality replacement. Richarlison has been largely underwhelming and they need to find an upgrade on the Brazilian international.

With the right additions in January, there is no reason why they cannot sustain the title challenge.
