Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Finnish club HJK Helsinki for the transfer of their academy player, Brooklyn Lyons-Foster.

The club’s official website has confirmed the departure of the English centre-back.

According to reports, the deal appears to have been finalised on a free transfer, although Spurs would retain a sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

The young defender progressed through the ranks of the Lilywhites’ academy, gradually advancing from the youth setup to eventually feature for the club’s U21 side.

Lyons-Foster has notably served as captain for Tottenham’s Premier League 2 side on multiple occasions during his impressive 99 appearances for the team, showcasing his leadership qualities while also making contributions as a center-half with three goals and three assists.

The 23-year-old earned a spot as a substitute in the North London outfit’s senior squad for two matches during the 2021-2022 season, highlighting his potential to break into the first team.

Born in London, Lyons-Foster has featured in 14 matches across all competitions in the ongoing season, notably leading the side out onto the pitch in 8 games.

He boasts a versatile profile, showcasing his adaptability by featuring as a defensive midfielder on five occasions, occupying his customary role as a centre-back in five matches, and even slotting in at right-back four times throughout this campaign.

TBH Says:

it’s a win-win situation for everyone involved. Lyons-Foster gets playing time, HJK Helsinki takes no financial risk, and Spurs maintain potential future earnings through a sell-on clause.
