Former Tottenham manager names the player who he thinks has been Spurs’ best player this season

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has hailed Cristian Romero as the standout player of the season for Spurs, highlighting the Argentine defender’s exceptional contributions throughout the campaign.

Ange Postecoglou’s debut season at Tottenham has been marked by both highs and lows, with the Australian manager making an immediate impact on and off the pitch.

Despite initial scepticism surrounding his appointment, Postecoglou succeeded in rejuvenating the atmosphere at the club and fostering a positive environment among the players.

The club also made some impressive signings, including James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Vicario, all of whom also made an instant impact with their performances, helping the club to a 10 match unbeaten start to the season.

However, injuries to key players, including Maddison and van de Ven, disrupted the team’s momentum, leading to a decline in form and a slip down the Premier League table.

Despite the disappointing end to the season, there are many positives to take from the first season of the Ange era. Among them is the emergence of the formidable centre-back partnership of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Van de Ven’s consistently solid performances has earned him recognition as the signing of the season for the club, drawing comparisons to the impact of Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Romero, who was appointed the vice-captain by Ange, has taken his game to another level since being given the leadership role. He has also worked on his discipline side of the game, making him a much more valuable asset to the team.

Cristian Romero hails Romero as Tottenham’s best player

The two of them are big shouts for Tottenham’s Player of the Season, and former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood has named his pick.

Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show, Tim Sherwood lauded Romero as Tottenham’s Player of the Season, emphasising the Argentine’s exceptional contributions to the team’s defensive solidity and overall performance.

He said:

“His two best players are Van de Ven, with the pace, but he will do his hamstring and Romero. If you asked him who has been his Player of the Season he would say Romero, so he isn’t changing those two.”

Tottenham are currently sitting 5th in the table, 7 points behind Aston Villa but with 2 games in hand. They are mathematically still in the race to finish top 4 but their form of late has not been the greatest, having lost 4 in a row and are yet to play Manchester City.
