Tottenham defender is set to serve another suspension, this time for Argentina after losing his temper during their recent defeat.
The passionate centre-back let his emotions take over in a tense FIFA World Cup qualifier against Colombia, a match Argentina lost 2-1.
According to reports from Clarin, Romero was at the centre of post-match protests, visibly frustrated by the outcome. His involvement led to a yellow card, which pushed him past the caution limit and resulted in his suspension for Argentina’s next qualifier against Venezuela.
This is a significant setback for Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni, who views Romero as a key player in his defensive setup.
This is his second confirmed suspension of the week. On Monday, it was reported that the Tottenham defender will miss the Europa League group stage opener against Qarabag on 27th September due to a suspension from their 2022 Champions League campaign.
Romero has been a vital part of Tottenham’s defence since joining the club. He is one of the best players at the club and a leader in the squad.
While he is an aggressive and reliable defender, Romero’s playing style has led to several disciplinary issues, including four red cards in the Premier League – more than any other player since his arrival.
However, he has massively improved this part of his game, specially since being given the responsibility of the club vice-captain by manager Ange Postecoglou last season.
