Chelsea are set to host Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend and they could be handed a major blow.
The Blues picked up a sensational win over Tottenham Hotspur in their last league game but England international Raheem Sterling appeared to throw a missile back into the crowd during the game and the incident was caught on video and posted on Chelsea’s tik tok.
Previously Tottenham star Richarlison was handed a one-match ban for a similar incident and it remains to be seen whether the FA decides to ban Sterling as well.
A ban would see him miss the Manchester City clash and given his performance against Tottenham, his absence will be a major blow for the Blues. Chelsea have had a mediocre start to the Premier League campaign and they will look to build on the win over Tottenham.
The last thing they require is to lose a key player in a big game against Manchester City.
Chelsea missed out on Champions League qualification last season and they cannot afford to be in a similar situation this time around. Mauricio Pochettino has been backed significantly during the summer transfer window and Chelsea will be expected to compete for trophies and finish in the top four.
The Blues will be hoping that Sterling can escape a suspension for the upcoming game against Manchester City. They will need his flair, experience and goalscoring ability against the defending champions.
