Bas Dost has confirmed that Tottenham wanted to sign him in this transfer window, but he wasn’t interested in leaving Eintracht Frankfurt.
Spurs spent much of this summer looking for a new striker that would act as a backup to Harry Kane.
The search was long with several players rejecting the move because they know that they will have to play second fiddle to Kane and only when the England captain is unavailable to play.
Dost has been in fine form for the Germans after joining them from Sporting Lisbon where he had scored 93 goals in 127 games.
He scored 10 goals in 30 games for Frankfurt last season and that was impressive enough to attract the attention of Tottenham.
But he claimed that he wasn’t thinking about making the move as he looks to play football more regularly.
“I heard from my agent that they were really there and were interested”, Dost told German daily Bild.
“But I think it was never an issue as I would have never been a regular there, and for me, I just want to play.”
Spurs have since signed Carlos Vinicius from Benfica and the Brazilian will hope to make the most of his time at the club.
He’d have come if we were interested enough.
He turned down the chance to move to Spurs and play for one of the best coaches of all time in favour of staying with Eintracht Frankfurt? He’s obviously not the brightest, good luck to him.
You lost Dost.
