Atletico Madrid have been linked with the move for the Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero in recent weeks.

They are hoping to sign the 27-year-old central defender this summer, but a report from Spanish publication SPORT claims that they are losing confidence regarding a potential move. The report claims that the deal will be difficult, and Atletico Madrid’s dream is fading away.

Earlier, we covered reports of Diego Simeone specifically requesting Atletico Madrid to sign the player.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has recently urged the club to keep hold of the Argentine international, and he also revealed that it would be difficult to replace the World Cup winner.

Atletico Madrid not confident

Following Postecoglou’s comments, the Spanish outfit are now pessimistic about their chances of getting the deal done. The report claims that Atletico Madrid believe that a fee of around €50 million could get the job done, but they are not confident of the outcome.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can keep him at the club beyond this summer.

There is no doubt that he is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and keeping him at the club would be a huge boost for them.

They have secured Champions League qualification for the next season, and they will not want to lose their best players. They will look to build around players like Romero and fight for trophies next season.

It will be interesting to see if they can convince the 27-year-old defender to stay at the club. They will need to convince him that this is the right place for the player to fulfil his ambitions.

Tottenham were quite disappointing in the league this season, and they have finished 17th in the league table. They will look to bounce back strongly, and they need their key players in order for that to happen.

Romero has won the World Cup and the Copa America with Argentina, and he will look to win major trophies at the club level as well. It will be interesting to see what he decides.
