“Bold move” – Former Spurs player praises Daniel Levy’s transfer strategy

Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes it is bold of Daniel Levy to resist selling Harry Kane this summer and risk losing him on a free next summer.

Harry Kane has been strongly linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer with the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, PSG, and Bayern Munich all interested in signing him.

After another trophyless season, it has been speculated that the striker will be keen on joining a club that can help him win silverware to add to his otherwise illustrious career.

But Daniel Levy is fighting hard to keep him at Spurs for at least another season. He has reportedly slapped a £100m price-tag on the England striker. Levy’s hardball has already frustrated Manchester United who are said to be looking elsewhere now.

And O’Hara believes it is a bold move from Levy’s part to keep Kane at the club. With his current contract expiring next summer, he will be free to join any club he wants. This means Spurs could lose at least £80m if they do not cash in on him this summer.

He told talkSport (via HITC):

“I think it’s a bold move from Daniel Levy to keep Harry Kane.”

“If he does say ‘no, we aren’t selling him. We are keeping him’, then maybe he is thinking ‘if we do something special next season’, in terms of getting Champions League football again. Potentially winning a trophy. Playing some great football under Postecoglou, then maybe he thinks he might be able to sneak another couple of years out of him in a contract or something.

“Unless Harry Kane sits there, rolls the dice, plays another season and then goes to Real Madrid on a free.

“But it’s good news for us (on Kane possibly staying this summer).”

Harry Kane prefers to stay in England due to his personal aim to beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League record. This could also work in Tottenham’s favour as not many clubs in England can afford him.

Spurs are in the process of a rebuild this summer under new manager Ange Postecoglou and have been busy in the transfer window so far.

They have already secured the signing of Dejan Kulusevski on a permanent deal and are on the verge of signing Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli as Hugo Lloris’ replacement. They are also strongly linked with a move for Leicester City’s James Maddison with reports suggesting that they are prepared to make an offer for him next.

A number of players are also expected to leave the club including Giovani Lo Celso, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Hugo Lloris etc.
