Bidding war looms as Spurs and Manchester United set to battle for Premier League star

By Mehdi Gokal -

Journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur could find themselves in a ‘bidding war’ with clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid for the signature of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

Despite recently strengthening their defence with the signing of Radu Dragusin last month, Spurs are reportedly still keen on further bolstering their defensive ranks in the upcoming summer transfer window, with Branthwaite high on their wish-list.

However, according to Jacobs, Spurs face stiff competition from other clubs, particularly Manchester United, who are looking to meet their home-grown quota and see the Everton man as an ideal candidate.

He told GiveMeSport:

“I think that there is going to be a bidding war, in many ways, during the summer. I think Tottenham will be there, and we know that Real Madrid have looked in the past as well.

“It is true that bringing in at least one young centre-back is on Manchester United’s positional radar. Home-grown players are also a key focus, so Branthwaite ticks a lot of boxes, especially with him being a left-sided centre-back.”

Branthwaite, who recently signed a new contract in October last year, extending his commitment to Goodison Park until June 2027, has been an impressive performer in Everton’s defense, forming a solid partnership with James Tarkowski.

TBH Says:

Given Branthwaite’s evident talent showcased in the English top flight, it’s no surprise that other clubs are taking notice, prompting speculation of a potential bidding war for his services.

The decision on how aggressively Spurs will pursue Branthwaite remains to be seen, especially considering our recent defensive signings and the financial implications involved.

But the fact that we are looking at some of the best players in the league is a good sign in itself.
