Ange Postecoglou’s tenure at Tottenham Hotspur, which began in June last year, has undeniably brought about significant changes and improvements, both on and off the pitch.
Despite facing challenges such as injuries and player absences, the Australian manager has adeptly navigated the team towards positive results, showcasing commendable progress despite resource constraints.
Securing the Manager of the Month title for the first three months, Postecoglou propelled Tottenham to the top of the table.
However, the team’s recent form has been marked by inconsistency, with only six victories in their last 15 games. Their latest league defeat against Wolves saw them slip out of the top four.
During a discussion on BBC 606, former English footballer and manager Chris Sutton fielded calls from Lilywhites supporters expressing discontent about the team’s style of play.
Sutton expressed surprise at these complaints, considering that North London fans had desired this ambitious style of play under Antonio Conte last season.
He said:
“Do you know what Robbie? I thought these calls would come next season about Spurs needing to be more pragmatic, but we’ve had a couple of Spurs fans on now, I’m absolutely staggered by these fans we’ve had on, this is what they wanted and now they’re moaning about it, deary me.”
While Tottenham averages 2.1 goals per game, ranking them fifth highest in the division, they’ve also been conceding an average of 1.5 goals per match, essentially offsetting their scoring prowess.
Postecoglou must address defensive vulnerabilities to prevent further goals conceded, as Tottenham cannot afford any more slips while being outside of the top four.
That being said, we think it is absolutely insane that fans are complaining about how we are playing.
It’s perhaps the best we have been playing since Mauricio Pochettino’s era, that too in Ange’s first season in charge.
We only are only going to improve, specially once Ange has all the right players in the right positions.
