Barcelona and Atlético Madrid continue to be linked with Tottenham’s Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.
The La Liga giants have made initial contact with the player’s representatives ahead of the summer transfer window. Although the transfer talks are still at an early stage, the clubs are keen to sign Rodrigo Bentancur at a favourable price.
Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone has a great admiration for Bentancur, as he can adapt to his aggressive style of play. However, fierce resistance is expected from the Tottenham front against this transfer, and Bentancur continues to play an important role within the team.
Postecoglou has previously described him as a “fantastic” player who is “pretty important” to Tottenham.
As Tottenham look to revamp their squad under manager Ange Postecoglou, Bentancur’s transfer to another club could be on the agenda as part of these strategic changes.
It is also confirmed that Tottenham have started contract renewal talks with Bentancur. The Uruguayan’s current contract expires at the end of next season, making this process critical. Although the talks are still in the early stages, Spurs want to extend the Uruguayan’s contract until 2029/2030.
Can Tottenham convince Rodrigo Bentancur?

It remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old midfielder is keen on signing a new deal with Tottenham, especially with clubs like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid keen on him. It would not be a surprise if the South American midfielder is tempted to move to Spanish football in the summer.
Tottenham are going through a period of rebuilding, whereas the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid might be able to provide him with the opportunity to fight for major trophies regularly. It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds.
The North London outfit need to add more quality in the middle of the park, and they cannot afford to lose one of their best midfielders in the summer.
