Lille midfielder Angel Gomes is reportedly on the radar of Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder is keen on a return to the Premier League and Tottenham are looking to secure his services at the end of the season. His contract expires in the summer of 2025, and he can be signed as a free agent in the summer.
Tottenham will be able to secure a pre-contract agreement with the player when the transfer window reopens in January.
According to a report from Give Me Sport, club director Johan Lange and Chairman Daniel Levy will oversee negotiations to sign the midfielder. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can get the deal done.
The midfielder has been linked with other English clubs as well, and there will be competition for his signature. Signing a player of his potential on a free transfer is quite attractive, and it is no surprise that multiple clubs are tracking his situation.
The 24-year-old is capable of operating as the central attacking midfielder as well as a central midfielder. He will add creativity and control to the side if Tottenham can get the deal done. They need to add more quality and depth through their side to do well across multiple competitions and someone like Gomes would be the ideal acquisition.
The former Manchester United Academy graduate will feel that he has unfinished business in the Premier League and he will be desperate to prove himself in England. His hunger to succeed will be a bonus for Tottenham.
Meanwhile, they could use more cutting-edge in the final third. James Maddison has been quite inconsistent at times and the competition for places will help the team improve. It will be interesting to see if Gomes can secure a return to English football in the coming months.
