Manchester City beat Tottenham 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to end Spurs’ 3 game winning run in the Premier League.

It was a game of two halves, with Man City utterly dominant in the first 45 minutes. Erling Haaland gave City the lead in the 12th minute and it could have been more but Guglielmo Vicario kept the home side in the game.

Spurs came out the second half a completely different side, and were the more dominant side out of the two. The returning Wilson Odobert should have levelled 10 minutes into the second half, as Pedro Porro’s whipped cross was prodded wide by the young Frenchman.

Ange Postecoglou could not believe Pape Matar Sarr’s miss

And it was not the only chance they missed. Pape Matar Sarr missed a golden opportunity to equalise right at the death of the game.

Porro was involved again, as he curled in a cross which hit Son on the way before coming for Sarr, who had the simple task to head it in from point blank range but ended up heading it over the bar.

Mathys Tel and Brennan Johnson also missed half-chances in the second half, while Heung-min Son saw an effort saved by Ederson.

There was late drama in the end with Erling Haaland putting the ball in the back on the net but the VAR ruled it out after a prolonged review.

The game finished 1-0, putting City boosting Tottenham’s chances of finishing in the top 4. While a defeat for Spurs means, they climb down to 13th with 33 points, on level with 14th placed Man United.

Next up for Ange Postecoglou is the Europa League game against AZ Alkmaar on the 6th of March. It is the only chance for Spurs to win a silverware this season and while performed well in the League stages, the Round of 16 tie against the Dutch side will be a test for the North London club.

If Spurs get knocked out of the competition, it could put Ange’s future at the club in major doubt.
