‘Ange obviously knows him really well’ – Spurs tipped to sign 24-yr-old on ‘massive wages’

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Portuguese winger Jota in the last few days.

The 24-year-old completed a move to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer, but the transfer has not gone according to plan and he has already fallen down the pecking order at Al-Ittihad. Former Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo is currently managing the Saudi Arabian club and the Portuguese winger is not a part of his plans.

Jota has been linked with a return to Europe and it seems that Tottenham could be a potential destination.

Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton has now claimed that the North London club could look to sign him on loan during the January transfer window. Spurs could certainly use more quality and depth in the attacking areas and the 24-year-old could be a useful option. He has worked under Ange Postecoglou during their time together at Celtic and the Tottenham manager will know all about him.

Hutton told Football Insider: “He will be on massive wages you would have thought but if he were to join on loan Spurs would only have to pay part of that. Ange [Postecoglou] obviously knows him really well and knows what he is capable of.

“I think that is a position where Tottenham probably could have a little bit of competition, the likes of Son and Kulusevski play on the outside but I think he could add something to it.

I think he has got the quality to play in the Premier League, he is at a good age, he is still getting better and it is always a little bit easier when you know the manager because you feel like you are onto a winning start already.”

Jota will add goals and assists from the wide areas and he is versatile enough to operate in a number of attacking roles as well. He scored 15 goals for Celtic last season and picked up 12 assists as well.

The opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League could be an attractive option for the Portuguese winger, and he is likely to be tempted if there is an opportunity to reunite with the Australian manager as well.

If he manages to impress during the second half of the season, Tottenham could then consider signing him permanently in the summer.
