Alasdair Gold reveals why Vicario was ‘furious’ with teammates during FA Cup defeat

By Mehdi Gokal -

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was left furious at his teammates during the 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup against Manchester City.

It was arguably the worst performance from Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou with the team looking extremely flat against the defending Champions.

They hardly posed a threat in attack and kept giving away the ball cheaply at the back – specially in the first half which was dominated in possession by Manchester City.

One of the reasons for Spurs not being in control was that the players did not come back to receive passes from Vicario, which ended up with the Italian kicking it out under pressure.

And this left the Tottenham keeper fuming as revealed by Tottenham expert Alasdair Gold who was reporting on the game live.

He posted on X:

“Vicario furious with Spurs players for not coming back to receive passes from him, causing him to have to kick it out under pressure.”

The winning goal came from a Kevin de Bruyne corner which was poked in by Ake from close range after Vicario’s punch under pressure knocked the ball onto his path through a Micky van de Ven deflection.

The goal was contentious, but VAR after a review deemed that there was no foul on Vicario in the build up.
