Do you think that’s down to the manager ?
We looked exhausted after 20 minutes against Toon.
That was psychological.
Poch got very little abuse in the final furlings.
I gave up calling him a pasty and went with #BackTheDamnManager which I’m now considering for my gravestone.
beat me to it
100% right. The managers an easy scapegoat because he’s not liked. The same fans would have the opposite view had it been he’s magic you know in charge.
This conceding late in games is nothing new. Under he’s magic you know, I lost counts of the times we conceded on the stroke of half time or just after.
The game that sticks in my mind was Leics when we were vying for top spot. We battered them for 87 minutes. They got a free kick which that donkey Robert Huthe converted.
it’s a mentality. We didn’t have it under ‘he’s magic you know’ and we don’t have it with one of the games most successful managers.
Blame can be laid at the managers door all you want. Certain things like concentration lie firmly at the door of the players.
I don’t mind reasoned criticism, which is very noble of me, but lunatics wheeling out the same tropes get binned, so they can stink somewhere else out
You must have the patience of a saint putting up with all these pinheads who think Jose is the problem at our club H…..
im Not pro Jose . However the defending against Newcastle was school boy stuff for most of the game and the goals conceded were a calamity .
Not sure you can blame him for the inability to perform basic tasks like –
-mark a man
keep your eye on the ball
dont bump into each other
pass to someone on your team 1st time
ledley(club legend) and the players must take responsibility.
jose will be saying to levy( or already is) – this is what I’ve got (once Toby is gone)
no one seems to be able to coach/set up a defensive unit – even against relegation fodder .
Spot on
We are stuck between a rock and a hard place with Jose. We keep him and this story does not change. How can anyone make a title winning team signing the likes of Doherty and keeping Aurier? We sack him and we have got rid of one of the most decorated coaches of all time and we feel eternal guilt at what could have been whilst still having to watch Aurier, Dier, Doherty, Sanchez, Dier, Winks, Ndom, Moura, Lamela.
Mourinho should have been able to get a tune out of that bunch, only Lamela has shown he has the heart for a fight, but if Dean Smith, Ancellotti and Moyes can get average players doing better, surely Jose should have? I know these players are poor, but look at West Ham’s back 4 and Noble played yesterday!
Kane has apparently exploded under Mourinho, but he wasn’t doing too badly before he arrived. Getting the others to improve was the key to our success. In this Mourinho has failed.
We have bottled every moment to try and get top 4 this season, it couldn’t have been handed to us (or any other team) any easier. Apart from City this EPL is a dire bunch of teams each trying to its upmost to fail. Bit like Poch’s last full season. We were awful but Utd and Arsenal handed us top 4.
Jose has to shoulder some of the blame, but the majority of players we have and the chairman we have really cemented our fate. I thought top 4 was possible (we missed it by 7 points last season), but imagine if we got in. How bad must this so called world’s best league be for us to still be in contention! You can only beat what’s in front of you. Our problem is we can’t!
We were crying out for a CB, 2 FB, a striker and a DM at the end of last season. We got 2/5 (Reggie and PEH), which isn’t good enough, especially as Jan left and so we got 2/6. What this Summer holds for us isn’t worth thinking about. We can’t buy any real quality and risk losing the only quality we have.
BTW I check did random quotes from a newspaper when he was sacked, didn’t fully check their accuracy, and the tabloids aren’t that reliable.
3 Trophies? You are counting the Community Shield? He won the milk cup and the Europa. The Europa gets you into the Champions League so is the only trophy that matters, although even playing Europa makes you a 2nd tier team. But at least he won it under them, maybe if we carry on like this we get another chance to play it in again next season – something for us all to look forward to.
I’m not a Jose hater at all. I think he’s a decent manager, and I did reference them getting to 2nd under him. That didn’t last though:
“United’s points tally (26) is their lowest at this stage of a season since 1990/91.” That was the figure when they got rid of Jose.”
“The ‘Chosen One’ was sacked after 10 months in charge at Old Trafford, with United seventh in the Premier League and guaranteed to finish outside the top three for the first time since the competition was rebranded in 1992”
That is what the Jose lovers are ignoring. His ManU stint went into free-fall, he alienated half the players, played boring football and still let in a ton of goals. The defensive approach didn’t work and let in more goals than a balanced approach. His defenders lost confidence completely. But at least at ManU they got a good season out him. We haven’t even got that.
You aren’t allowed to reference these trophies. They don’t count and to true Mourinho haters they never happened.
Drab game, outcome was inevitably. Season is petering out, zero excitement. Rename Tottenham stadium – purgatory. Subs were laughing and joking amongst themselves, so team spirit is good.
That Man United he won 3 trophies with compared to Ole’s none. How exactly are they doing better now?
You can only compare managers records when they are working with a similar level of squad. ManU have a similar level of squad as this Tottenham squad, and right now ManU are doing better than when he was there, although he did guide them to 2nd at one point. West Ham have a much worse squad and right now they are above us.
Our central defense isn’t his fault though. He inherited the problem with our two best CB’s getting old and not being replaced. And arguably our problem with late goals is caused at least in part by this issue.
Somebody’s got a tactics problem. Over and over and over again.
“Spurs players getting fed up with Mourinho’s withering comments” is Matt Law’s latest headline in the Torygraph.
Not as tired as we are with the sh*t shower constantly leaking late goals.
When a manager who has won every domestic trophy there is to win tells you “you aren’t playing well enough to get a top 4 place” is your response a) “Well we’re not being coached correctly” or b) “Christ maybe I should listen to this guy, he seems to know a bit about what it takes to win things”
Of course the answer could be c) You’re simply not good enough players
Somebody’s got a concentration problem…..
