Video Evidence: Steven Bergwijn shows why he should be sold as the Netherlands thumped Belgium

Last night, Steven Bergwijn scored precisely the sort of goal against Belgium that he would be unlikely to be able to replicate in the Premier League.

Given plenty of time and space of time and space, the ball whistled into the net. The Spurs lad had 3 other attempts, however, this was the only one on target.

Bergwijn heat map vs. Belgium

We also saw a number (4) of successful dribbles from the Dutchman.

This, again, tells us what we perhaps don’t want to know, nothing was achieved from any of them. Think Lucas Moura on a flat day. And so this is where we are with this player.

Nice kid, but please, let’s sell him and go again.

I’m not giving Stevie B any credit. Simply stating a fact. When Stevie B came on against Leicester away Spurs were losing the game. His two injury time goals came right at the death and earned Spurs the three points. Spurs finished two points clear of Arsenal. Without those points earned by Stevie B Spurs would finish a point behind Arsenal.

FACT

Don’t understand your reference to Dele at all. Dele did his bit for Spurs in the past. I wouldn’t say a bad word about him. He lost his way. It happens.

I think Bergwijn is now dispensable because Kulusevski has come in and does more than Bergwijn ever has.

Selling Bergwijn at a loss is still not the right thing to do. Spurs are being low balled by buying clubs for their saleable assets. Read Ruud Gullit’s recent remarks regarding Ajax attempting to sign Bergwijn.

This is about as close as you could get to what I am trying to say.

I think I’m a suspected ENIC apologist. I’m not. I just argue my point and am prepared to back it up without getting personal.

I have opinions and I am careful before I form them. My mind is open to being wrong sometimes.

I know what Levy and ENIC are. I always have. I packed up attending matches at WHL because of their methods. They have rinsed the supporters and exploited loyalty to a disgusting degree.

The noughties season ticket waiting list and Stubhub tell their own story. It’s not a secret.

I agree with the vast majority of what most of the ENIC cynics on here post. I don’t agree with all of it.

Levy has hired several decent people in his 21 year tenure. Jol, Harry Redknapp, Poch, Conte, Frank Arnesen, Commolli, Mitchell and now Paratici.

He’s also hired the likes of Ramos, AVB, Baldini & Nuno.

I’m neutral on Jose. I think Mourinho was hired to stop the ship sinking completely. He was the most credible candidate at the time to retain Spurs best players. The football was terrible though. I was glad when he was hired and I was glad when he was fired.

Such is the life of a Spurs supporter under Levy and ENIC.

I never stood on the shelf. I sat there for my last competitive home game against Liverpool in 2008. I swapped my season ticket seat in Paxton Road with my daughters fella so they could sit together.

I was a season ticket holder in Paxton Road for over a decade. Block 20 first, behind the goal but not looking through the net, and then Block 19 Row 2 for about 9 consecutive seasons.

Before that I attended as a member from the late 80’s and went to at least half of the home games and away games in the north and the Midlands where I live.

I travelled away with Spurs in Europe to watch us in the 92 Cup winners cup. Saw us lose in Rotterdam. John De Wolf and Johnny Metgod taught us a lesson. Without Gazza Spurs were average. Lineker soon wanted to leave.

West Ham away was always my favourite. Was behind the goal at the Boleyn when Sergei Rebrov had his finest hour in a Spurs shirt. That game was my outstanding memory from my time attending matches.

Nobody’s dating he should be sold at a loss, he’s done enough to break even on him. Does not improve our quality though, let the chap go and play regularly somewhere else…

No, better experience and not quite as old preferably. Players around 29-31 of top quality rather than 23 year olds that require game time to develop, which they ain’t gonna get in that role. So what’s the point?

One game doesn’t achieve champions league…. Giving Stevie Burgers credit for this is as silly as giving Dele the same credit.
Oh if Dele hadn’t scored in our one nil win against Wolves then we wouldn’t be in the CL.
Should have kept him too?
Lol.

No but I suspected it at the time and I haven’t changed my mind. Spurs won 2-6 away at Everton the week Jose was sacked by United. Spurs didn’t win away in the league again until Jose took over a year later. Poch then started hedging his bets. United made no secret of their interest in Poch.

At age 26 I would be signing Andre Onana on a free from Ajax as the Spurs number 1 goalkeeper. He is comfortable kicking, catching and making saves. A top goalkeeper for the next five years at least. So in answer to your question; I’d be escorting Hugo off the premises.

If he’s young enough to bring in a few quid and he rarely kicks a football, I’d rather get him out and bring in an older proven and experienced player to come off the bench etc who will be impactful. Moura is still dining out on Amsterdam and Bergwjin seems to be doing the same with his late show at Leicester. It’s getting boring…

I’d possibly keep him as a squad player as Moura will probably be off. However, will he be happy with the amount of football under Conte based on this season, especially since Kulusevski arrived? Given his age and stage of his career he shouldn’t be vegetating on our bench.

My view is that Bergwijn should be sold for no less than Spurs paid for him unless he is being sold to allow Spurs to replace him with a better player in the same position.

If Spurs sell Bergwijn for less than they paid for him and do not replace him adequately then I suspect we will be made to look (more) stupid if Bergwijn goes on to do well.

Regarding the West Ham game; Bergwijn was underwhelming in many of his cameo appearances for Spurs. I confirmed this in my original post.
