Watch Spurs’ £30M rated ace prove again why Tottenham must retain his services

Pierre Emile Hojbjerg has come in for some pretty troubling criticism across social media, from fans who appeared just to be a bit bored with a man who is essentially a holding midfielder. In the ordinary run of things, these are the players that do the dirty, mundane jobs. Box Office videos are not something they tend to feature in.

Thought to be valued at some £30million, there have been suggestions that a move to Newcastle could be in the offing. I’d prefer to keep Pierre and send the fans that don’t appreciate him to Tyneside.

I will relay an event from the past.
I was one of those who never appreciated Carrick. I dont mean I didnt like him but I didnt get what he brought to the table.
When he went to Manure I realised my mistake.
Luckily I appreciate PEH now I’m sure Conte wont want to ship him out.

Bentancur has strictly played as an 8 since joining Spurs, and has done pretty well at it.

I do not see him as a holding type mid at all. He is a complete 2-way player from box to box.

Now Winks? I have no idea what he is trying to do when he is on the pitch. I suspect he does not know, either. He may benefit from a bit of remedial study!

Let post it for the last time. Nick Pope for me all day. He could start ahead of Lloris on any given day. Mind bending. Instead of having a for the next decade we will chasing on 2 years from now.

Wishful.
Conté HAS succeeded in managing some previously dross players into a coherent starting eleven – I point to the likes of Davies, Dier, and dare I say it, Sanchez. Even Sess shows signs of moulding into a decent winger as the weeks go on. But our options off the bench in terms of changing a game are non-existent.
Kulusevski has been a revelation. Who’d have thunk even a year ago we’d be playing a bonafide front 3, and probably the most lethal front 3 in the league?
Now what we need is options and squad depth, but that’s gonna cost a shed-load of bullion, and if Dan the man insists on selling to buy, we’re dealing in loose change.

PEH short comings are being highlighted far more than he is criticized. His efforts are always there even on a bad day of work and not having someone next to him to be creative does make him look one dimension. Unfortunately, again instead of getting a creative mid, we went out and get Betancur another holding mid, but is a cut above Pierre in terms of his skillset and ability to pick a pass. I cannot blame Winks or Skipp, the unbalanced squad for the past 10 years comes back to Levy. If Conte continues to deploy the 343 and we aquire a first class #8, who gets the nod. Are going to run 2 holding mids in a 343 setup. What do we do with Kulu? Put him at right back to accommodate that line up. I do believe from January PEH will give way and move on. He is a starter and even though we need rotation, is he going to accept a part time roll. This is not Europa, he would want to be the starter in the CL, but I really do not see him staying and this has nothing to do with his quality. The numbers are against him with the 343 system along with Skipp and Betancur preferred.

Looks like Forster will our backup keeper next season, homegrown quota yet again, just like Hart and Gollini. A more decent backup though than either of those two I reckon.

I’d definitely keep him around as he’s got lots of what every squad needs, but there are some circumstances when what he brings in midfield isn’t especially required and you need more vision and range of passing, ball carrying, dropping a shoulder etc. I feel if we had other options in there and he could be used in rotation or swapped out when required for another kind of player, that the frustration and criticism of him would be far less…

PEH is a hard worker who deserves our respect, yet so many already prefer Skipp to him. Please, let the lad develop and learn first.

OT: Notice Howe at Newcastle talking about there being “no time to waste in the market”; Tuchel saying Chelsea need to spend to catch up with City and Liverpool; ten Hag and the Glazers mentioning a big rebuild; Arteta’s also making transfer noises. City have already wrapped up Haaland and Pool Carvalho.

Spurs? “We will discuss it in the coming days.”

Well, best do something quickly. If we are really serious, we’ll announce two or three guys right when the window opens. Let’s not get caught off guard by July 1st once again.

Like a number of players we buy and who do well they get played to the point of exhaustion. It highlights how thin the squad is that we can’t rotate and rest players to keep them fresh. Pierre is a fine example of this.

Conte has a massive job to do now. I’d argue one bigger than getting us from 14th to 4th. This transfer window will determine a number of things. It will determine how much longer Conte remains at the club. It determines if Son & Kane stick around. It determines progress in the CL & PL.

Getting rid of the deadwood and having a large enough war chest to buy players that will bolster the squad and more importantly improve it isn’t a job for the faint hearted. I’d hope Conte and his team have already identified the ins and outs. Had a discussion with the chairman that includes the conversation of getting deals done early so we can hit the ground running’s give new signings a proper pre season.

Now isn’t the time to dilly dally and haggle over a few £. If Levy and co have learnt anything since Poch it’s to do all the above early. If ever there was a time, a second chance if you like to back your man. It’s now.

Sadly of course, the club has form. Looking at it you wouldn’t back us in a one horse race to do the right thing.

I said it yesterday, I repeat it now. Over to you Daniel.

No way does Conte rate Winks. Winks was getting cameos to say his goodbyes. 3 seasons overdue as well.

PEH has had no help in midfield until Ollie Skipp stepped up at the start of this season and Bentancur arrived in January. He had been ploughing a lone furrow before this; often beating his head against a wall. Along with Davies and Dier he has improved under Conte having been in danger of losing interest completely. I don’t think it was a coincidence that PEH’s worst performances were when he played in a two with the Winksmeister.

On a separate matter; the goon supporters are really not dealing with this situation. I cannot get any of the cnuts in my phone to respond no matter how hard I try. I think they may be giving up completely after the recent turn of events. The Spurs support is truly magnificent. We spent a decade watching the goons best ever team playing some breathtaking football and rubbing our nose in it at times while we languished in mid table or the lower half.

We still turned up, we still backed the team and we got through it. The real gap the gooners should mind is the one between the quality and character of the two sets of supporters. Spurs have always had the better support and they know it. We have been loyal when it was bordering on insanity to renew season tickets.

I have spent an hour today ringing gooners and playing them the Champions League music. It’s been more enjoyable than any cup win I can remember.

God bless Antonio.

Is he very much different to Declan Rice in ability, attitude, achievements and style? Rice is currently valued at £67m on Transfermarkt. If PEH were to go, would Levy fork out that sort of money for a replacement?

Now we will have CL matches to play next season, we almost need 2 decent players in ever position. PEH and Skipp play similar roles, although I agree with you that PEH has a largely unnoticed creative side and does get into scoring positions. Skipp could be PEH’s “understudy”, relieving him of the burden of playing all of every match.

Completely agree Harry. People have short memories. It wasn’t so long ago that we were a rudderless ship. PEH is the on pitch leader who should be captain and what we were missing for a very long time.

I have read criticism pf PEH on other sites – the main problem some fans have is that he is not Pirlo (in the same way that Dier is not Beckenbauer). Who dinked the ball over the top for Kane’s goals away at Newcastle and Leeds? And who played the ball over the top to Bentancur yesterday? PEH is first and foremost a CDM – he reads the game well, intercepts, covers and tackles. I really would not want to lose him this summer, him, Bents and Skipp +1 (PMSarr??) will be good for the way Conte plays with only 2 midfielders because they both need to be able to defend. That’s why I struggle to see Eriksen fitting into our current line-up.

I’ll never fully understand why he attracts so much criticism on soshul meeja.

Perhaps it’s mostly younger fans who didn’t quite understand that his own role was seriously impacted by having to babysit and mop up after Harry Winks on a weekly basis.
Maybe they were too upset with results under Jose & Nuno to notice that he was one of a very small handful who publicly showed that he actually gave a monkeys about what was happening.

Or maybe I’m giving the nitwits too much credit and they’re just nitwits who think a DM is supposed to have the balletic poise and grace of Mousa Dembele.

The man’s effort, work ethic and attitude is beyond question.
Since the more composed and reliable Bentancur ousted Winks, Hojbjerg has been rock solid, and he’s set up more successful attacking plays than most this year.
Oh, and he’s easily the only outfielder in the squad with the minerals to be captain.

I can’t think of a single Spurs fan I know or follow that has anything bad to say about him. I’d imagine any speculation linking him with a move away from Spurs was copied and pasted on here by Eddie Razo.

I’m sure there are even fans on SM who have a go at Sonny from time to time. They are all Jamie O’Hara wannabes. Best to ignore it all…

Yes, like a Coutinho type. But Conte only wants 2-way players. I think Tony’s going to take a long look at Gio this summer. He may end up staying. Tanguy – no way.

Wouldn’t know about the social media stuff except for what people say on here, but I can’t see Hoj moving anywhere, he seems a great lad with a great attitude.
He’s not flash but you can see he loves playing for the club, just like Ben Davies, a totally committed professional, one that each manager has held in high regard, and yet strangely picked on unfairly, but that’s fans for you.

I’m with you teeth, but Conte has said he trusts Winky. Maybe he’s blowing smoke, but Winks is the first guy off the bench in recent weeks. Believe me, I’ve seen enough of Winks.

I’m not sure Conte rates Winks,he is just putting him in the shop window occasionally late in games.Once Skippy is fit again PEH will get some rest.

Underrated and very important to this squad and Conte. Hoijberg and Bentancur look as if they are evolving into a decent DM pairing. I would shift half a dozen others before him.

You can say these guys dominate the midfield against lesser squads like Norwich, 10-man Arse etc. Sure, but they’ve also improved a lot under Conte as seen in the recent Liverpool game. What PEH needs is some rotation or rest and the lesser schedule down the stretch helped him a lot. As I said earlier, Skippy / Bent / PEH are fine as the middle 2 in Conte’s 343. I’d like someone better than Winks, but Conte seems to rate him and we need homegrown players. What we really need most this summer is another creative player in the middle that can breakdown the deep bus parkers.

Considering he has done the work of 3 men in many games I think it would be lunacy to sell him ..Royal has had 3 decent games all season same for Sess and Reg and when you consider all the other games he has had to cover both flanks and the middle of the park …and Dier’s sh#t distribution..when you actually think about that rather than the odd game when he has been running on empty ..you will realise what a player we have on our books ..
Only Levy’s media machine would spout off about shifting him to make 15 mil and buy someone nowhere near as good .
