Tottenham Hotspur is in the final preparations for its 2021-22 season and played Chelsea FC to a 2-2 draw. After the friendly, many media members didn’t want to talk about the match. However, the topic that the majority wanted to know what’s going on with striker Harry Kane, who’s yet to appear at training.

Manager Nuno Espírito Santo didn’t want to talk about the situation with Kane after the match with the media. Still, when pressed, the Portuegses tactician explained why he doesn’t wish to discuss the issue with the 28-year-old striker.

“It is not that I don’t want to comment, what I believe that all the issues relating Harry we should discuss internally, among us and try to avoid any kind of public argument or discussion about it,” Santo said.

Alli was very disappointing. He seemed fit enough, but tended to overplay when in possession and had little influence on proceedings. Lucas made the one terrible pass, but is still a talented and decent squad player. Bergy was also sloppy with his passing, but has been lively in pre-season and took his goal well. As for Dier? Still a liability, as you say and should be nowhere near a first choice CB pairing.

Agree with Moura and \Dier, however I think Bergwijn could be decent and Ali in my opinion is still capable of being a top player he needs confidence and the right system

The highlights of the game showed we were quite poor and were lucky to get a draw. I don’t think Moura, Bergwijn or Alli are good enough. Dier as well was his usual liability self.

Bored of it all…..I accept HK wants to go, but for gods sake HK don’t throw toys out of the pram and sulk! Grow a pair and turn up for training as your contract stipulates.

Players come and go we all get that, how they choose to behave is down to the individual, the only thing that remains constant is the club and us fans.

Here is my considered take on the Harry Kane situation. There has been, predictably, a torrent of idle, mostly malicious, speculation and reams of spurious innuendo regarding Kane, most of it coloured by the antagonisms of the various journalists/authors concerned, either towards THFC, towards Levy or towards Kane himself.

The only narrative that is relevant is the one between Kane and Levy and the only dialogue that now matters is the one to be had and resolved between the same two parties. My viewpoint is unequivocal, if Kane no longer wants to play for the shirt, then sell him, period. Any player who is not fully committed to the cause and who wishes to be elsewhere has the potential to be a locker room cancer and Harry Kane is no different.

I have had the misfortune in the past few days of reading all kinds of pathetic, ‘victimhood’, drivel regarding Kane, so let’s get real. The fact is Harry has been happily pocketing somewhere in the region of 300k a week from THFC for kicking a piece of leather around, whilst large swathes of society devastated by the pandemic are struggling to survive. Kane is set-up for life. No-one forced him to sign a 6 year contract, or one which didn’t contain a release clause, so spare me the bleating slavery analogies.

In my opinion Kane has had his head turned, selfishly, by the false lure of attaining a few shiny baubles and don’t give me the ‘it’s all about ambition’ guff! What realisation of ambition is to be derived from winning a boat load of trophies, with an oil financed ‘nation state’ team, who openly flout any concept of financial fair play? City like Chelsea are not inherently a ‘big club’ and both spent the best part of 40 years in abject mediocrity before being purchased by uber-wealthy oligarchs.

If Kane wants to leave in the pursuit of cheap trinkets with City, which are about as hard to obtain as ‘shooting fish in a barrel, then let him go, provided a realistic valuation of his worth to THFC is obtained. In my estimation City need to stump up 150 mill, take it or leave it and Levy should make that fact very clear, publicly, to all parties concerned. [None of my broadside against Kane should in any way be interpreted as exculpation of Levy, who is the primary author of this debacle.]

As far as Kane is concerned, there are greater and nobler endeavours in life than the pursuit of personal gain. In spite of the travails of trying to win trophies with a team, hobbled by the parsimony and mismanagement of its ownership, ultimately there would be greater satisfaction winning one trophy with Spurs than 10 with City and retiring as the club’s all-time leading goalscorer. I would of course warmly thank Harry for his great service to THFC … but wish him well at City? Not a chance.

More seriously, Harry has had what, 2 weeks holiday? The man has a family, he’s been shipped overseas all year, including in time when he might have expected to have a break, he had 50 weeks (injuries excepting) when he’s had to start and mainly complete each game…..I mean how many match minutes has he worked this season compared to others – I’d guess a lot more than most.

Given that, he probably needs MORE rest than most, time to ensure the little niggles and strains of a full season at the highest level get time to recover…..can anyone imagine the current crop of Olympians performing at the level they do for 50 weeks a year?

As HH has suggested, he may well feel he needed the break and the down time with his family and has prioritised that. Fair enough – IF that’s the case….

I am not big on breaking contracts and I’m sorry Harry, but the slavery argument doesn’t hold water for me: he is very well compensated for the conditions he agrees to in his contract and we should also remember that if his legs get busted he will still get paid for the remainder of that contract.

That’s simply not slavery, that’s commerce – especially since they’ve probably not signed Harry Kane as an employee, but Harry Kane Inc. with a proviso that the “service provider” is Mr. H. Kane.

Gentlemen’s agreements are or course verbal contracts too; but if Harry was dumb enough to accept a handshake agreement with Daniel Levy (of all people) with no third party present, he must be mad.

You’d have to think that after all he must have seen, with Levy acting out with Bale and especially Modric, that an agreement that can be denied on a he said-she said basis will be honoured by this Shylock without the requisite delivery of his 160 million pounds of flesh!

Regardless, whilst I don’t want him to go, if he wishes to now I can only wish him well; I understand his ambitions and aspirations. Has he earned a pass? IMO sure, but we know Levy, we know his form and we know that if he has an out on his hand shake, like say: the price – he’ll use that – that’s what he does, that’s why we have serially failed for so long and why Harry Kane is reported to want to go!
