Appointing a new manager isn’t Tottenham’s biggest issue this summer and they must solve it claims pundit

Pundit Kevin Campbell reckons that appointing a new manager isn’t the biggest problem Tottenham is facing this summer.

The Lilywhites have been without a permanent head coach since they fired Jose Mourinho in April, but they are about to get a new manager.

The Athletic says they will meet with Nuno Espirito Santo today to finalise his appointment as their next boss.

If everything goes to plan, he should be able to start preseason with them next week.

Being managerless is a big deal, but Campbell says the future of Harry Kane is the biggest problem for Tottenham this summer.

The former striker says the Lilywhites have everything going for them including a new stadium, but the future of Kane is a worrying issue and they have to address it after appointing a new manager.

When Football Insider asked him what he thought about Tottenham’s managerial search, Campbell said: “It has been a bit of a joke.

“They have got everything going for them, new stadium, this, that and the other.

“The big issue is Harry Kane though and that’s the most worrying thing. They have still got to address their biggest issue after getting a new manager in.

“It is not just about losing him, it is also about what they do with the money. He is going to go for a fair whack but even then it will be incredibly difficult to replace him. It is going to be a summer of difficult decision at Spurs”

Kane has been linked with a move away from Spurs, but the Lilywhites want to keep him and the poor financial state of most of his suitors could help them achieve that.

Nothing against Nuno but to take 70 days to appoint a bang average manager is hardly sending the right message to Kane is it?

Couldn’t disagree with Kevin Campbell more strongly. Appointing the right manager was important after sacking Jose. Appointing the right manager only took on greater significance the longer Levy delayed making a decision. To have taken 70 days+ to chose Nuno to replace Jose is beyond comprehension. Really? Nuno Santo who has won virtually nothing replacing Jose who has won virtually the lot? It’s a disgrace. Harry Kane, if he hadn’t already made up his mind will surely do so just as soon as this news is confirmed. The appointment of a manager who would command the respect of Harry Kane and other players at the club was probably the only outside chance of keeping him at Spurs. So appointing the right manager was always going to be the biggest decision this summer because so much of what goes on afterwards will flow from that. The club is sadly in disarray and Levy by making an appointment like this confirms the lack of on field ambition which is plain to see. And it is precisely this lack of ambition that will drive Harry out of the club in search of something that will match his desire to win stuff.

Think Harry will be too professional to pull any stunts, but really can’t blame him for wanting to move on , if indeed he does. Sure he is magic , but if he goes we’ll just have to suck it up. He scores more than most, but Bamford got 17, Ings got 12 etc, we’ll mange or rather Nuno !
