This screenshot above is from the BBC’s live text service, and rather beautifully sums up the facile level of analysis that dogged Mourinho’s time at Tottenham.
Sheffield United are already relegated, their ability to take advantage of a side is perhaps best summed up with more fact (kindly note the wholesale absence of opinion) that their forward Rhian Brewster last scored a goal back in 25.08.2020 for Liverpool in a friendly against Liverpool. Some of you might recall that he was the chap that Sky interviewed before the kick-off last night.
The season is all but over and Spurs are trying to kid us that the hunt for European football is very much still on. Like a dog chasing cars, I’m struggling to imagine what we might do if we ever caught one.
Should we qualify there is unlikely to be much in the way of transfer activity to facilitate an overhaul – if that were the plan, then Daniel Levy would have retained José’s services. So we will go again with whoever is still here. What larks.
I don’t believe I’ve ever felt less affection for a Spurs side. So pay heed to Pete, bask in his illumination. Pete knows his onions. Pete’s Tottenham are revving up for a European Tour!

Ultimately based on net spend I think we should be between 4th-8th…anything outside of this is massive under or over achievement. As I say I dont see us finishing higher than 6th next season without major surgery to the sqaud…we’re just lucky in many ways that for the past 3 seasons we’ve had the best striker in the league, the downside of this is that when he’s off form or out then against the better teams we have next to no chance of winning.
Ryan knew citeh would dominate possession as they do in every game, but whatever team selection he chose we simply could not cope with their performance on the day.
Did the club get their£15M worth from such a divisive character as that of Mourinho ?
He was destroying the place.
I personally dont see much difference between winks & lo no show…other than about 40 million. A fit Tanguy is whats needed but neither Jose or Poch has been able to get more than 60 minutes of decent football out of him each week on a regular basis. What we need is a clone of PEH & to get a replacement for Tanguy. We should sell: Winks, Alli, No show, Lamela & attempt to find 2 midfielders who can pass forwards on a regular basis with both feet, who can play 1 or 2 games a week. Its surely not a difficult ask……..
I disagree, if our sqaud could have followed instructions & tracked runners we would likely have a better points tally…, but certainly not enough to have been second..It’s clear something happened behind the scenes after the Leceister defeat as our players seemed to lose their focus & work ethos dafterwards… lets see how we get on next season against the other big four… this season against them I think we have 7 points. I personally dont see us finishing top 6 next season…
There is some issues with the team balance but at the end of day they are not far away from the second to fourth place teams. I feel some of the players need confidence. Alli is an enigma, he’s a good player but whilst he worked hard, for once yesterday, his touch and passing was off as you’d expect of a player with little confidence. He wasn’t playing well before Mourinho as is the case with a number of players, but can the get back to early Pochettino form. Lets hope so as Spurs are not going to have the funds to get much else.
Interesting their strikers goal
drought. Dele hasn’t scored a PL goal in 14 months and there are still fans out there who think he should get a shirt 🤷🏻♂️
This team got 1 point under Mourinho from its last 27 available points against the top 4, Liverpool, Everton, West Ham and Arsenal.
Even 11 points from 27 would have been disappointing, but those additional points could have put us in second place now.
The team is good enough. It just suffered from being set up so negatively against any decent team by a negative manager who should never have been allowed within a 100 miles of our ground
When you lose all selections are questioned. The gulf between us and City is enormous. To think not so long ago we took them on toe to toe. PEH who is a decent holding midfielder, apart we really are lacking in midfield talent. I see Winks in the same light as a Ndom and Gio, well below the levels of Mousa and Tin Tin but I fully respect others may have a different view.
Funnily enough Bales not that type of guy. I think at heart he’s quite fragile hence his early difficulties at both Southampton and Spurs. He’s not one to shoot his mouth off
At the end of the season he’s likely to go back to Madrid and if Zidane doesn’t want to pick him sit out the last year of his contract.
The cup final raised a lot of selection questions indeed – why the hell did Winks play?
As for Doherty,… 😂😂 He really does, doesn’t he? Maybe the position of the playground creep would suit him better.
I’ve no idea why he didn’t start Bale at Wembley. I think he saw Moura as a better bet when we didn’t have the ball which was most of the time.
Truth is even if we had had a pre Madrid Bale at our disposal it would have made no difference.
By the way Docherty exposes himself every time he plays
He will need to book in at the Priory after his stint with Brasil.
Valid points from both. We shouldn’t let Bale become a deflecting tool for the person responsible for this fiasco, levy
I’m not disagreeing with you , he was a vanity signing as was Jose when the chairman failed to address the real reasons why the club performances had declined.
I would agree that his arrival did produce induce higher levels of expectation amongst both media and fan base which haven’t been realised.
Jose obviously didn’t fancy him which is his prerogative but when he had played he has contributed.
Singling him out for various team results is I feel unfair. He didn’t play well as did many other team members nor can the management escape criticism either
We were never good enough for second place… I think what irks most about this season league wise was the points thrown away against West Ham & Newcastle… lets face it our first 11 is massively unbalanced… its very worrying that Tanguy cant play one game in a week & that his replacement is either: Alli or Lo no show which is even worse…
Yeah sure he was. Anyway carry on hating
Yep
Come on Mourinho should have got more out of Bale and Alli. By the end most the team looked bored.
I was quite excited by Mourinho’s appointment and thought he could be what Spurs need but it didn’t work out. Maybe he needed another transfer window but you can’t change every player, some you have to work with.
i agree he was a short term desperation ‘buy’ by Levy to get success by hopefully getting us Top 4, which all that Levy wants, instead of serious long term player investment.
At 10milion a year he’s not cheap and not the Bale of old but his rate of return I would wager is better than all of the purchases of the last 3 windows I would wager
That’s some promotion😬
Nobody’s saying Bales no good. Course he was incredible. It was a mistake him coming back and no hattrick vs Sheff U is going to change that. I know alot of you were all excited and are desperately clinging to this but it’s time to face reality. Go and watch Arsenal, Zagreb. That’s why Bale was paid to come, to perform in those type of matches. He’s been match fit 2/3 months. Please??!
He was brought in to supposedly bring success. He’s scored a few goals in nothing matches v dross and been anonymous been needed. We ain’t top 4. We’ve won nothing …again. he’s paid astronomical wages to score v Palace, Burnley and Sheff Utd. Absolutely it’s failure. A marquee signing?!
. He turns up against a relegated side and gets 3 and people band around his goal tally with that performance as part of it to attempt to attribute it to success. This is about Bale nobody else.
Pretty simple Bale has four games left and he can help Spurs win the next four games and we can’t ask any more.
Well, really and truly, that is just a matter of opinion and it would seem by the tone of this post and subsequent comments, a deeply unpopular one. And the stats (which we are told on this blog never lie) seem to say otherwise too…
He has scored as many PL goals as Mahrez and Sterling, having played at least 9 fewer games than them. He’s also our 3rd highest goalscorer this season, with just 6 fewer than Son who is considered generally world class. All while battling to get in the team due to a self-righteous has-been of a “manager”. If that constitutes failure, then words fail me.
I do agree though that Kane is pretty much infallible and without him, we’d be screwed for sure.
Talking of fantasists when does Jose start on Talksh.te working with the footballing savant Alan Brazil?
He was having a breather from scoring 20 plus goal this year and setting up 13 and keeping this circus above water
It was good to see both full backs have a good game, great assists from Serge. Sheffield utd were poor for most the game but it was a decent performance all round after a dire cup final.
This team could be challenging for second place had they not thrown away so many points in the last minutes of games. May be there is some hope yet.
Yep, Bales got the perfect out now. It was big bad Jose or I’d have scored a hattrick every week?!
Nothing should shock me by now with ENIC fc but this is unreal.
What a weird thing to say. Everybody’s stats have been boosted by Sheffield United, we play each team twice.
Who else has scored a hatrick? Kane couldn’t score one goal against Sheffield
And yes, the whole squads a joke, but still….I’m not digging Kane out, no Kane and it would be bottom half finish at best.
Bale another one in that long list of people that didn’t get on with Jose
Casillas, Ramos, Ronald, Kdb, Salah, Hazard, Fabregas, Pogba, Shaw, Dele, Toby.
All sh.it players them
He has failed. That’s the point.
Bale and ndom are the two most watched players by all youts at Hotspur way
That hattrick has boosted his stats so they can be erroneously spun as decent. You can’t guarantee anything from him, hence the seasons failure. He hasn’t been fit for the most part. I can’t honestly believe this is being seriously discussed. It’s desperation. Kane and Son were not anonymous and abject as Bale was at Arsenal, Zagreb, etc …that’s without the wages…
He’s been good on occasion and poor in other games. Its pretty clear from Bale’s post match interviews that there was a difference of opinion with Mourinho, which is the crux of the problem. Mourinho wanted to defend first and create a platform but the players in the squad didn’t fully buy into it other than one or two and arguablyb the team did not suit a defensive dynamic, which Mourinho should have realised.
Mason couldn’t risk playing Bale against City as well as Kane , who was lacking fitness, and Kane trumps Bale.
He’s scored a goal every 83 minutes he’s played in the premier league and without him Harry and Son who else would you guarantee a goal from? I suspect most of his goals have come against weaker opposition, but so has Harry’s, all goalscorers get the majority of their goals against poor opposition that’s how it works. To my knowledge Harry hasn’t scored this season against the following
City,Chelsea,Liverpool,Leicester
Hes scored twice against United one a penalty but that demonstrates that goalscorers are in the main flat track bullies
Bale stays behind after training dead balling with the youts. So what some may say. I love it when a top top winner finds time for the youngers.
Jesus your dammed if you do and dammed if you dont with some on here..He scored 3 crackers we played good attacking football.didnt concede..happy days..The football we played under the special was nothing short of a disgrace.his tactics were a disgrace .his treatment of certain players was a disgrace..fanny juice to the lot of it..move on
And other sections, because they decided having him back on loan wasn’t a good idea for some reason, are desperate for him to fail and so treat one of the greatest players this club has ever had with contempt and disdain when he actually scores a bloody hat-trick. Name me one player in this squad (including Kane) who hasn’t had a few shockers this season.
He started against Arsenal, and many others and did nothing. He wasn’t fit till March. Sections of this fanbase are so desperate it’s become delusion.
He was absolutely invisible against Arsenal away (and exposed Doherty during attacks down our right) – and Arsenal are hardly one of the league’s top sides. Did nothing against Leicester at home. Played poorly against Fulham and Brighton.
Make no mistake, yesterday was a brilliant goalscoring performance (even if he couldn’t pass to a white shirt if he tried), but he’s offered little to suggest he’s trustworthy in more difficult games.
If you disagree – why didn’t “Mase” trust him to start the cup final?
This completes the utter lunacy this ‘club’ has become. You could see this coming. If anyone’s heard of Charlie Zelenof, the fantasist who thinks he’s a pro boxer who sucker punches people in the street and claims he’s a world champ….that’s this Bale situation.
Finally! A voice of calm reason. Mourinho was long since past his sell-by date even before Levy stupidly hired the bloke. He’s petty. He’s insecure. He’s spiteful. He’s never going to succeed with a team of any stature ever again. You have to be a little bit devoid of rational thinking to believe otherwise!
Bale isn’t what he was but he’s still got more ability than probably 80% of the current Spurs squad so WHEN you play a player like that, who is happy and motivated, look what happens. I don’t care who the opposition is.
Certain marks on this forum simply cannot accept that what they long ago decided was the truth to suit their narrative, is actually nonsense! It’s just their “alternative facts”. To you folks, I say grow up!
Fine, keep him for the relegation teams, just don’t tell Daniel he has to pay him for ALL games….
Bale still has amazing abilities, however he never got picked by Jose, as with ZZ, because against good teams he doesn’t track back, press, defend, and even yesterday his passing was terrible….he isn’t the same player we once had, isn’t worth 300k a week, and Jose was always the wrong manager for Levy and the likes of Bale and Ali who both need a cuddle before their milk at night time…
Let’s be clear. When Bale was brought in, the fawning and nonsense rhetoric was he was going to wow us all like 2010 and push us to glory.
Not turn up 2 months before the season ends and score a hattrick v relegated Sheff Utd and a couple of other no hopers. Arsenal away? The League cup final? Any other match vs top opposition? Invisible rich man.
Baller bale still got it. He woulda scored a lot more were he given more games. Winner at Hotspur way. Love him
In fairness he isn’t wrong, agree it might only have been Sheffield United but we’ve thrown 1-0 leads away defending against the likes of Newcastle, Fulham, Wolves (who can barely score this season). Against Fulham we scored then sat back and let them get back in the game and score, no reason to suggest that Sheffield wouldn’t have done the same if we employed that tactic.
I don’t think Bale got much game time against bigger sides. Rightly or wrongly
They certainly do count. We’ve dropped points against plenty of so-called “pub” teams this season.
Here we go, the inevitable attempts by dullards to make Bales return a success that was only ever a fantasy off the back of a hattrick against Sheff Utd who are relegated with one of the worst points totals in Top flight history. He barely played before March ffs.
When does it stop??😲
What exactly is Bale doing wrong, he currently has 8 goals in 8 PL games, his post match comments could not be clearer in explaining his situation.
Mourinho disliked the man for smiling or some other demented reason, just like others in the squad who didn’t play, it’s probably Levy who is now instructing Ryan to use the likes of Bale and Dele as he believes they should be involved.
Levy is now seeing a positive change in the players and performances improve, which may be temporary, but will only show him that employing the previous manager and his unique management style was a terrible mistake.
If we fail to get a European place it’s not Bale who’s to blame, it’s the damage done earlier by a manager who failed to get the best out of the squad he had at his disposal, one he was happy to have.
not 300k a week no
Yes I do. Brighton, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Sheffield United. Why? These teams don’t count?
Do
you
know
who
he’s
scored
against?
I’m with you Essex (from over the border but an Essex boy really!). Not sure I’d only expect Conference though as Europa League looks quite achievable.
Bale has scored 9 goals in 16 Premier League appearances. If Mourinho had trusted him more maybe Spurs would be consolidating a top four finish instead of chasing it. The only thing wrong about sacking Mourinho is the timing. He should be given the boot a lot earlier
You can only beat what is put in front of you, and while I don’t think we have any chance of European football other than the new Conference, it was still nice to see a 1-0 lead turn into a 4-0 lead. Like Pete, I am not convinced a Maureen team would have attempted to do that!
