Harry Winks was a lot more convincing for England in his 94-minutes last night than he has been for Tottenham recent performances
It was Mason Mound (look away now, Dele Ali) that took the corner and then Harry Winks who fed in the chip for Maguire to finish.
Winks was also involved Sancho’s goal in the 31st minute against the Republic of Ireland.

Harry only misplaced 3 passes in Ireland’s attacking third, and as you can see from the clips his involvement was vital on a number of occasions.
Winks is usually played by Gareth Southgate as Left Centre Midfield, opposed to Left Defensive Midfield, which Mourinho tends to favour.
Perhaps one of the elite journalists with access to the Hotspur Way press room might consider asking the Portuguese why Winks is more interesting to watch and more effective for England? One might imagine the complimentary flea in the ear that might be prompted, but watching Winks at Spurs is rarely an entertaining business.

Two managers with two different squads of players, I guess. If the way Southgate wants to play fits Winks but Mourinho’s less so, then the outcome is pretty obvious. However, if Winks works really hard for 9 months on his Tottenham role, he may get much better at it, which will hold him in good stead for any role he might have anywhere in the future, be that at Tottenham, England or anywhere else.
Don’t want to take anything away from Winksy but you’re in trouble if you can’t turn it on against the worst Irish team in my living memory
Well done Winksy 👏
He’ll never play for a bigger club than Tottenham.
Winks looks like such a misfit in our counterattack style, its difficult to see a role for him
