Celtic is one of the teams that want to sign Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon on loan this summer, but former Spurs man Alan Hutton claims it would be a step backwards for the youngster.
The young Englishman joined Tottenham last summer from Fulham after the Cottagers were relegated from the Premier League.
He had a tough first year at Spurs with injuries hampering his progress and he was also not considered strong enough to start some games for the club.
Ahead of the new season, he still does not look ready to stake a claim for a regular starting berth in Jose Mourinho’s team and there have been suggestions that he might be sent out on loan.
He has been linked with a move to the likes of Celtic and Fulham who are now back in the Premier League, but Hutton thinks that the link to the former doesn’t make sense.
He claims that the Scottish league is a level below the Premier League and he should target a move to a Premier League side instead.
Asked what he thought of the links to Celtic, Hutton told Football Insider: “The crystal ball says no, that’s my opinion. There’s no way.
“I think for Sessegnon, and it’s no disrespect to Scotland at all, it would be a massive step back for him. He moved from Fulham to Tottenham, he’s had some injury problems, it’s not quite worked out but we all know he’s a great player.
“If he was to go out on loan anywhere it would have to be a Premier League team that he would go to. I just can’t see that one happening. I’d be very, very shocked if that deal went through.”

Ledleys body guard when out on the lash
I would take little heed of what Hutton has to say, wasn’t he recently caught sniffing his sisters soiled undergarments whist drunk in one of Glasgow’s seedier bars, The Louden Tavern i believe it was called.
