Hopefully this is the final update on the Pierre-Emile Højbjerg transfer for sometime, certainly for today, at least. Amid all the recent chitter-chatter of Everton making incremental bids to secure the services of the 24-year-old, one source proudly flies in the face of Carlo Ancelotti being ‘close’ to getting a deal over the line.
The Liverpool Echo deny a deal clinching £25million bid, and believe that their source inside Goodison Park, who says there is interest in the player, but only £14million’s worth.
This casts rather a shadow over recent tales of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg being at the Toffee’s training ground. Also, this another salutary reminder to all concerned that personal terms are just that, personal, and no indication of forthcoming deal sanctioned by two football clubs.
Given this information, it might well be the case that Spurs are considerably closer to signing Højbjerg than was thought by some earlier today. Who knows?

He won’t improve us but he’ll fit what Jose wants to do which is boring and functional. If we win loads of stuff being boring and functional then he will have improved the trophy count. If not, we just play rubbish footy with no end result…
Steffen Freund Mk2? George Graham signed him and Jose is a similar manager.
An in form Dier of a couple of seasons back is far better than this guy…
So long as he defends Jose will be happy. Defending is what it’s all about.
We need a tenacious player that can win the ball back and command the space between defence and midfield. He is such a player. Any suggestions for better players we could sign in that position also welcome, but we haven’t been linked with any.
Upgrade on Mary Winks
You know some Saints fans don’t rate the player that highly, except at breaking up play, which is I guess what we’re looking for. But whether he could just turn out to be another Dier or Wanyama who knows? I’ve heard a lot of his passes go astray, but I’ve not seen enough of him to see if this is the case. But at the end of the day if Jose wants him then I’ll go along with his judgement. Would certainly free up Lo Celso to go forward.
As a Spurs fan, I was hoping Hojbjerg was already snapped up by Everton. 14M sounds about right. Somebody please tell me how he would improve Spurs.
