Manchester United famously allowed Paul Pogba to leave them as a teenager for free, they would eventually bring him back for a world record fee in 2016.
It takes some doing for a club to realise their initial mistake and re-sign a player that they allowed to leave for nothing and in all fairness to United, they did just that and now have a world-class player in their ranks.
Tottenham has now been tipped to do the exact same thing with one of the more exciting youngsters that came out of their academy.
Portuguese media outlet Record is claiming that Tottenham is looking to bring back Marcus Edwards in a sensational swoop just a year after he left them to join Vitoria in a bid to get more first-team opportunities.
The teenager was highly rated at Spurs, but after he struggled to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s team he decided to take a chance and get first-team opportunities elsewhere.
MAIN: Latest Philippe Coutinho to Tottenham update is very interesting
Edwards has been in fine form for the Portuguese side this season and teams at home have been paying attention to his development.
One of the high points of his time this season was when he scored a goal against Spurs’ biggest rivals, Arsenal in the Europa League.
He has scored five times and provided eight assists in the Primeira Liga this season and he might spend just one season in Portugal.
Spurs will look to add some players to their team this summer and they could do a lot worse than getting Edwards back, however, it is almost certain that he would want some guarantees before he returned to a team that was not prepared to give him the opportunities he sought.
Man Utd is also interested in the 21-year-old and the same report has stated that it will cost between 20 and 25 million Euros to lure Edwards back to the Premier League.

I don’t live where you live “thankfully. London is the best city in the world, its where Tottenham Hotspur live and I wouldn’t live anywhere else.
No I haven’t seen him live , except on tv, fair enough, I dont live in London thankfully, so hope your right about him then.
Nonsense. His left foot is better than deles. He’s not weak either. Low centre of gravity with strong strong legs. Ever seen him play live? Didn’t think so. He’s got a wicked free kick in him too.
Please let this be true. It won’t be that much money. Attack attack attack baller. He’s our boy. Tottenham through and through.
He is totally one footed but his main problem is his lack of physical strength .
No way are Spurs going to spend 20-25 on an ex.
Was just about to “Post” when I thought – could he replace Winks?
Well the Paul Pogba saga isn’t exactly an inspiring one. Injured a lot and an irritant to Mourinho and Solsjaer. A seemingly unending source of toxic stories for the press and the owner of an entourage and super agent. Yeah we need one of those.
No thanks, take the £11m sell on fee.
