When I woke up this morning, I didn’t expect to have to find words to describe Glenn Hoddle, Chris Waddle and others slathering Jim Rosenthal in wax.
And even now, having had some thinking time, I can’t find any to do it justice. So I’ll simply share with you this bizarre three-minute feature report from a Tottenham squad spa retreat prior to the 1987 FA Cup final.
This is like Alan Partridge on steroids; so much better than the overplayed golf course interview that reporters might consider outside of the box in the slick modern media.
ITV have extended highlights of the 3-2 defeat to Coventry City available on ITV Player, under the FA Cup Classics programme tab.
It was a match to remember, even if it wasn’t a result to forget.

I was there in ’87. I hated it. Whenever highlights are shown I turn the TV over. I can’t stand watching Spurs lose live, definitely not doing it in a repeat, no matter how iconic the game was.
Didn’t watch, no good memories of it, the first FA Cup Final lost by a Spurs team.
