“Money talks” Spurs Ace Hints That Grand Close To Season Is On The Cards

Jan Vertonghen believes that Premier League could well be wrapped up in a completely unique, mini-World cup extravaganza. SuperJan’s interview on Belgian TV has been transcribed in part by The Sun.

“They will do everything to finish the competition and people here are even considering quarantining the players, coaches and referees for five weeks to finish the games. It would be like a mini-World Cup, which would be quite dramatic for a family man like me. But money talks and players have little say about this.”

Maybe I’ve been following Spurs for far too long, but surely this is a great opportunity for all the clubs to fully embrace any unprecedented shake-up, and provide the Spurs Stadium with further exposure – surely it’s got to be the best venue for the final?

It’s also been mooted that the remaining games could be broadcast on a free to air basis if a suggestion football chiefs were to be taken up. The only problem with that idea is that the clubs would be surely left in an even bigger mess given their current financial obligation to broadcasters.

The idea of the sides going into quarantine camps is unlikely to suit many if any Premier League players. Perhaps this is also a great opportunity for some players to experience some discipline and focus?

Athletes during the Olympics are isolated in their villages and training camps for weeks, but they expect this and are used to it. Precious, little footballers are not. Still, if you offered footballers the chance to spend 4 weeks with their team mates rather than in the house it might be a relief. I totally see the family predicament, but rugby players and cricketers go on tour for months, some without seeing family at all. Small sacrifices or totally unwarranted intervention, I’m with the former.

A spell in the South Korean army might buck up their (the players) ideas. Can’t see Sky /BT letting the games be shown free to air, they’d still be expected to hand over the £750 million outstanding to the Premier League and take the loss of all the cancelled subscriptions.
