In the summer it was Paulo Dybala who got our hopes up and our pulses racing in the transfer market. The prospect of an elite forward joining up with Harry Kane to solve one of Tottenham’s biggest and longest dilemmas.
But hope turned to despair on deadline day as Dybala stayed at Juventus.
And in January, prepare for that player to be Edinson Cavani, who The Guardian reports is on our radar as we seek cover for our injured skipper.

Cavani has had a few injury problems himself this season, playing only nine times for Paris Saint-Germain since August. These are the first signs of the 32-year-old slowing down after nine prolific seasons in France and Italy.
As The Guardian details, the Uruguayan’s contract expires at the end of the season, and PSG have plenty of firepower in Kylian Mpabbe, Mauro Icardi and Neymar so may cash in this month while Cavani retains any value.
That value, according to PSG, is around £30m which will initially deter Daniel Levy, but the chairman may think he can negotiate with a club with whom we have had several successful dealings over the past few seasons.
While now past his prime, going after Cavani would show that we are serious about buying top-class support for Kane, which is something that will be a problem again in the summer if we only look at loans this window.
But be prepared for more deadline-day disappointment, Dybala style.

I can’t see this at all. He would be good for a season or two so £30m maybe a bit steep but not far off. At £15-20m he’d be good value if we can squeeze him into our wage structure. Incidentally, our wage structure must have plenty of room to grow now we’re bringing in £450m a season! Time to make a big signing!!
Anybody who thought or thinks we were ever in for Dybala should check themselves in the Betty Forde clinic …… Far too many class A’s and Smirnoff gins down the neck
I had better watch out then.
You are quite right and were in fact the words which immediately sprang to mind but I was concerned over the strict censorship rules which now pervade this blog.
LOL
With a little bunch of grapes hanging out your a hole too would make it piles of pain😂
I’d have him all day long. A bloody seasoned old pro. Troy watch and learn (don’t worry you’ll get cup games) 18mth trail with option to buy at his price 18 months ago at the end of it is brilliant. I bet levy tries it get him cheaper in a year. (Re loan deal)

“That would be enough to make Levy’s sphincter go into spasms.”
They used to say ‘would give his arsehole the hiccups’.
Listened to Mourinho pre Watford presser and he makes it clear that he wants Lo Celso signed permanently, just realised that will be one less signing in the summer then as the chairman will count this as a new transfer. this loan business is pathetic.
Ageing, injury prone, big wages, just what we need.
Another wild goose chase for the masses.

Can’t see it happening. He would want a two year contract and big wages. That would be enough to make Levy’s sphincter go into spasms. I think Thomas Muller is also out of contract at the end of the season and he is younger than Cavani. Never mind, Levy will probably tempt Peter Crouch to come out of retirement.
