80-cap international linked with Spurs could complete Conte’s attack – opinion

By Saikat -

The 80-cap Netherlands international Memphis Depay has been linked with a move away from Barcelona this summer.

The 28-year-old was a useful option for Xavi Hernandez last season but the 13-goal attacker has been placed on the transfer list because of Barcelona’s financial limitations.

The Spanish club are thought to be keen on signing players like Robert Lewandowski and they might need to free up funds in order for any move to go through.

Although Depay scored 13 goals across all competitions for the Spanish club last season, he is considered an expendable asset and the player has been linked with a Premier League return.

The Dutchman joined Manchester United back in 2015 but he had a disappointing spell at Old Trafford.

The player has been linked with clubs like Arsenal and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can swoop in and secure his services.

According to reports we covered earlier, Spurs have already enquired about signing the Barcelona forward.

The 28-year-old can operate as a left-sided winger as well as a centre forward and his arrival will add depth and versatility to the Tottenham attack.

The Londoners have already splashed out on a quality Premier League attacker in the form of Richarlison and Depay’s signing could complete Antonio Conte’s attacking unit next season.

Tottenham will be fighting on multiple fronts next season and they will need a deeper squad.

Depay could give the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min some much-needed rest during the crucial junctures of the season. That would keep Conte’s attack fresh throughout the season.

Furthermore, the player will have the hunger to prove himself in the Premier League after his disappointing spell at Manchester United and his desire to succeed will be an added bonus for the Londoners.

The 28-year-old could make an immediate impact next season. He has previous experience of playing in English football and it is fair to assume that he will be better prepared to cope with the challenges of the Premier League this time around.

No, No and thrice No. He’s a bit of a charlatan, this was proven at Utd where he did not look decent. The Dutch are either brilliant or flatter to deceive. Depay is a 0.5 upgrade on Bergwjin. He was a big fish in a small pond for Lyon and has hardly set the world alight for Barca. He’s alright but can’t see him being a Spurs player in August.

Be very surprised if this happens, but we know Levy like a bargain, even if it’s not what we need.

Perhaps if we move Lucas on, he would be a upgrade. Think he’ll want regular playing time though, so more paper talk IMHO.
