50-year-old unlikely to get Tottenham job because of what he did in 2012

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur recently sacked manager Antonio Conte and they are believed to be looking at quality long-term replacements.

The north London club has been linked with managers like Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino in recent weeks.

However, Leicester City’s decision to sack Brendan Rodgers has now added another name to Tottenham’s wish list. Apparently, Brendan Rodgers is also on the radar of the London club.

However, journalist Jack Pitt Brooke from the Athletic claims that the move is unlikely to happen.

Apparently, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was keen on appointing Brendan Rogers as the manager of the club when he sacked Harry Redknapp back in 2012. However, the 50-year-old manager decided to join Tottenham’s Premier League rivals Liverpool instead.

The journalist implied that Rodgers might have a damaged relationship with Levy.

“Yeah, so my understanding of this situation is that after Tottenham sacked Harry Redknapp, they were very close to getting Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers actually went to Liverpool and he changed his mind very quickly. The way that was handled didn’t go down very well with Daniel Levy and therefore I would be very surprised if Rodgers were to end up being Tottenham manager this summer or anytime in the future,” Pitt-Brooke said on View from the Lane podcast.

It will be interesting to see whether Levy is prepared to consider the Northern Irishman for the managerial vacancy at Tottenham once again.

Rodgers has done reasonably well at Liverpool and Leicester over the years and he could prove to be an interesting acquisition. His attacking philosophy could be an instant hit at the north London club and he could get the best out of players like Richarlison and Son Heung-Min.

The 50-year-old has shown that he is good enough to manage Champions League-level clubs and he could prove to be an inexpensive addition to Tottenham as well.
