Spurs have eyes set on €30m defender as club scouts come back with positive reports – summer move possible

Despite signing Radu Dragusin last month, Spurs plan on bolstering their defence with another centre-back signing in the summer.

Several names have been linked with a move including Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly and Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori.

According to reports from Italian outlet Corriere di Bologna (via Sport Witness), Tottenham has shown interest in securing the services of the Bologna centre-back, who has caught the attention of the club’s scouts.

Scouts have provided “profoundly positive” assessments of the 21-year-old, who has impressed since joining Bologna from FC Basel for €4 million last summer, signing a contract until June 2027.

Since his arrival, the youngster has been a revelation in the Italian top flight this season. He has been a regular feature on Bologna’s team sheet, making 26 appearances so far.

Calafiori has emerged as a standout performer in Serie A this season, featuring regularly for Bologna and excelling in various defensive metrics. As per Fbref, he ranks among the top players for interceptions, aerial duels won, progressive carrying distance, and successful take-ons.

Tottenham are not the only club showing interest in Calafiori; Serie A clubs AC Milan, Napoli, and Juventus are also in the mix, taking note of the defender who is valued at a €30m plus valuation.

Having already made significant defensive signings in recent windows with Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin, Tottenham’s pursuit of Calafiori signals their commitment to fortifying their backline further. Whether they will act on the positive scout reports remains to be seen in the summer.
