“Wouldn’t rule that out”, “fantastic addition” – Gold makes exciting Tottenham transfer claim

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for the upcoming transfer window with a clear focus on bolstering their attacking options, and reports suggest that Brentford’s Ivan Toney has emerged as a prime target for the North London outfit.

According to insights from Tottenham’s correspondent, Alasdair Gold, Spurs are actively exploring the possibility of adding a new forward to their ranks ahead of the summer transfer window.

While Tottenham’s city rivals Arsenal have also expressed interest in Toney, no significant developments have transpired from the Gunners’ camp thus far, leaving the door open for Spurs to potentially swoop in for the talented striker.

The pursuit of Toney comes as Spurs continue their quest to find a suitable successor to their former star striker, Harry Kane, who departed for Bayern Munich in a blockbuster transfer deal last summer.

Toney, currently in the final stretch of his contract with Brentford, is expected to seek new opportunities this summer as his contract edges closer to expiry on June 30 next year.

With no signs of an imminent contract extension, the 28-year-old forward appears poised to leave the club for a top club.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold hinted at the possibility of Spurs making a move for Toney, citing the striker’s expiring contract and prolific goal-scoring record as enticing factors that could benefit Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Gold said:

“I’m not sure where Ivan Toney’s going to go. The big odds were on him to go to Arsenal, but that doesn’t seem to be as strong a link anymore at all. I wonder if in classic Spurs style they look at a player with a year left on his contract. In that system, he would get so many goals. I wouldn’t rule that out entirely, he would be a fantastic addition.”

During his tenure under Thomas Frank’s management at Brentford, Toney has proven to be a pivotal figure in the team’s attacking setup.

Last season, the prolific striker scored 20 goals in 33 appearances, finishing as the third-highest scorer in the division behind Erling Haaland and former Spurs striker Harry Kane.

With a market value estimated at €50 million, Toney represents an attractive option for Tottenham as they seek to fill the void left by Kane’s departure and reinforce their attacking arsenal for the challenges ahead.
