What would you have done?

By The Boy -

Every time that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by like dusk to dawn
Isn’t that the way
Everybody’s got their dues in life to pay

~ Dream On: Aerosmith

As the seasons go by, those of us the front line blogging on the pavement know that window by window, the mood of the fans has become increasingly edgy, frequently horrible. @gethill on my time line summed it up eloquently this morning, calling it pure entitlement. What a depressingly accurate summation. We quite definitely appear to be rubbing shoulders in our support with a sub species of fan. One looking to sneer and ideally shout ‘W*nkers!’ at someone, anyone.

Disinterested in reason or rational thought, they know best. We spent in excess of £100m in a matter of just a few weeks and yet these guttersnipes emerge like woodlice crazily darting from a beneath an overturned slab of stone. We shouldn’t have sold Bale, we should have done this. The There are fewer licenses for ignorance greater than the heady cocktail of avarice and intolerance.

So I ask what would you have done? Try if you’re able not to bitch and moan about anything else in your response to my question. Try, if you can to be succinct and answer the question. Perhaps, even the most ‘outraged’ of you might attempt to factor in the transfer market is not as simple as operating a a freshly stocked vending machine.

Here’s the rules: You have £110m to spend, football contracts are, as any child could tell you, utterly worthless. So Bale must go in any reasoned equation. You are allowed of course to say that you would have stuck it all on a horse in the 2.40 at Yarmouth. Equally, you can say you would have bought Suarez. Hopefully somewhere in between lies a credible path of suggestions that is worth debating. Worth reading.

What would you have done?
