Twist In Toljan Talks

By The Boy -

Toljan, Hoffenheim director of football Alex Rosen said: “If Tottenham come in and offer to treble Toljan’s salary, you cannot say: ‘London is an unattractive city or Tottenham are a bad club.’ This is all very positive, and then young people think about it.”

It looks like The Hoff has not just been charmed by the idea of Toljan playing at Spurs, but is planning to help him pack.

What I want to know, is why Chelsea who looked at one stage as if they were going to sign the boy – didn’t.

This from a Chelsea blogger Joe Tweed: “Athletically, he is incredibly gifted with the positional flexibility to operate both as a conventional full-back (left and right), wing back or anywhere in midfield. A product of the talented Julian Nagelsmann’s coaching; Toljan has a great foundation upon which to build. I would see him as a right wing back at Chelsea, but there are improvements that need to be made.”

Toljan strikes me as a player who might need a move to someone like Napoli before he becomes a significant target for someone big. […] He is the type of player Bayern Munich buys to develop. With his contract running out next year and an acknowledgement he is unlikely to sign another deal, he could be a steal in the summer if developed correctly.

So Jezzer is cheap, cheap to feed, and is a big little bundle of potential.

Then why didn’t the player factory that is Chelsea buy him?

My guess is that somewhere between this blogger’s opinion and CFC some rational thought entered the conversation.

As a right wing-back this German U21 starlet would competing for playing-time with Kieran Trippier who has just been rewarded with a 5 year deal.

At the rumoured £3,5million or whatever the lad might cost, this is not to be confused with anything other than a signing at consolidates the periphery of the squad.

Toljan might be more interesting than whoever we already have amongst the development boys. Wow. I am so excited. The Double is finally on.

Where are the signings to address the £60million sink hole in the Spurs first XI? Because this child sure as hell ain’t part of that solution.
