Journalist reveals why Tottenham’s ‘best signing’ this season is ‘susceptible’ to injuries

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Micky van de Ven from VfL Wolfsburg at the start of the season.

The Dutch defender has been outstanding for the north London club so far and he has adapted to the Premier League quickly. The 22-year-old is already an indispensable asset for Tottenham and he is likely to improve with coaching and experience.

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has claimed on GiveMeSport that Van de Ven is undoubtedly Tottenham’s best signing this season. However, his extraordinary pace means that he is susceptible to hamstring injuries.

He has already picked up a couple of injury blows this season and Tottenham will hope that he can get over his injury problems in the coming seasons.

“I think Spurs recruited ever so well last summer. The best signing was Micky van de Ven, who is an outstanding defender. His pace is extraordinary. Unfortunately, I think he might be susceptible to the odd hamstring injury or two because of that.”

The Dutchman needs to manage his sprints and time them properly in order to avoid injuries in the near future. The 22-year-old is an excellent defender and his reading of the game has been quite impressive this season. His recovery pace remains his biggest asset but he will have to conserve his energy and avoid pushing himself to the limit when it comes to sprinting.

Guglielmo Vicario in action

Guglielmo Vicario has been very impressive for Tottenham

Apart from Van de Ven, Bridge has heaped praise on goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario as well. The Italian has been quite impressive since replacing Hugo Lloris as the club’s first choice goalkeeper.

He has hit the ground running in the Premier League and he seems to have adapted to English football’s physicality quite well.

“Guglielmo Vicario has been a great signing as well, but Ange Postecoglou has been talking about this just being the start. There are still a lot of players who won’t fit into his system and will eventually move on, so I’m still envisaging a busy summer for Spurs.”

Tottenham have done impressive business this season and it will be interesting to see if they can improve the squad further at the end of the season.
